The 32nd edition of BWF Thomas and Uber Cup 2022 is all set to take place from 8-15 May in Bangkok Thailand.
The Indian men’s team which will be competing at the Thomas Cup will be up against Chinese Taipei, Germany and Canada. The top two from each group will make it to the Quarterfinals.
In the last edition held in Denmark, India were placed with China, Netherlands and Tahiti. They did well to win the two ties 5-0 and lost to China 1-4 to finish at Second position in the group
In the Quarterfinals India were up against the host country Denmark and found it really hard to crack the tie only to lose 1-3 and this finished at fifth position. The men double pairing of Satwik and Chirag were the only ones to put India on the scoresheet. All the other matches were settled in straight games with host boasting of Axelsen and Antonsen
Indonesia defeated China in the Finals to win their fourteenth title. They are the most successful nation speaking of Thomas Cup.
The Indian Women’s team competing in Uber Cup are grouped with South Korea, Canada and USA. They will be hoping to better their last outing where they were defeated by Japan in the Quarterfinals stage.
In the last edition India were placed in Group B along with tricky teams from Thailand, Spain and Scotland. In the first tie India defeated 3-2 and then went to defeat Scotland 4-1 before losing to Thailand 0-5. However by then they had secured the place in Quarterfinals
With Srikanth, Lakshya, HS Prannoy and Satwik/Chirag in good form we do expect a good show by the Indian Team at the Thomas Cup. While it will intresting to see the combination in the women’s team as their are a lot of youngster coming good and they will be eyeing to represent the country at Uber Cup
