Fourth seed Indian PV Sindhu Defeated Fifth Seed Chinese He Bing Jiao
Top Ranked PV Sindhu who played the chinese shuttler the seventeenth time in her career defeated her in a gruelling three games. In the quarterfinals of the Badminton Asia Championships 2022 the only shuttler left from India in the singles competition kept the Indian flag flying.
Sindhu who had defeated Bing Jiao in straight games in the last two matches they played was looking on course to complete the hat trick in the similar fashion. She won the first game 21-9 in no time. The Chinese shuttler who has been on a good form on the circuit had other plans and she was determined to take the match in final game. Bing Jiao He has won German open defeating Akane, An Se Young & Chen in the course of tornament and then Korea Masters defeating An Se Young & Chen for the second time.
Bing Jiao came into the next game all charged up to close in 21-13, after being 10-10 midway in the match. After the break when the match resumed the Chinese showed tremendous skills to close the the second set in her favor to take it into the decider. Final Game
Sindhu as she is known for playing on a different level in big tournaments came out with all guns blazing in the decider and it looked like Sindhu will close the match in a jiffy. Here again the Chinese clawed back in the match. There was a small controversy as well during the third game over the score and Sindhu seemed to be unhappy with the situation.
PVS was leading 16-9 at one moment in the game but it all became very close as the score read 18-16 in Sindhu’s favor. It was so heartening to see how much Sindhu wanted to win the match and the joy of winning every point was quite evident. When the score read 20-19 and Sindhu was on Match point it could have turned either way but the Indian got lucky as the shuttle touched the net the chinese return was smashed on the net itself.
It was definately not a match that either of the players would be proud of as it involved a lot of errors but Sindhu prevailed to the SemiFinals and may run into Akane Yamaguchi next
