Sania & Pavic Enter Mixed Doubles Semifinal at Wimbledon

This is Sania Mirza first ever Mixed Doubles Semifinal Appearance at Wimbledon.

 

The Sixth seed pair of Sania Mirza and Croat Mate Pavic who have shown tremendous form through the course of the tournament got better of the Fourth seed to march in the Semifinals.

They defeated the Canada-Australian duo of of Gabriela Dabrowski and John Peers 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 in the quarterfinal match that lasted one hour 41 minutes.

This is Sania’s best mixed doubles performance at the Wimbledon. Earlier she had reached the quarterfinals in 2011, 2013 and 2015.

A career slam in Mixed?

Sania who has won 2009 Australian Open and 2012 French Open with Mahesh Bhupathi. She has won the 2014 US Open with Bruno Soares of Brazil. The only title missing is the Wimbledon, should she win this then it will complete the career slam in the Mixed Doubles.

The pair had got a walkover in the Pre-Quarterfinals against Chan-Dodig.

They won the first round against Dzalamidze & Hernandez in a tight three setter which went in to tie breaker. Sania & Pavic won the match 6-4,3-6,7-6 (10-3).

“There are things in life which take priority over playing tennis matches and I am at that stage now,”

They still await their opponents for the Semifinal match and will face either Farah/Ostapenko or Skupski/Krawczyk.

Sania who is playing her last season as a professional tennis player lost the first round in the doubles.
