The BWF World tour Super 300, Madrid Spain Masters commenced from 26th March 2024 (Tuesday) and will continue till 31st March 2024.
The matches are being played at Centro Deportivo Municipal Gallur in Madrid. The Indian contingent had a forgetful outing till now.
After the completion of R32, only 5 Indians had advanced to the next stage of Round of 16. Unfortunately star players like Kidambi, Tressa & Gayatri crashed out of the first round in Spain Masters.
Below is the match report of each individual category wise.
Men’s Singles(MS) :-
- Kidambi Srikanth looks really tired after a great run in Swiss open and lost the match against Japanese opponent Koo Takahashi by 18-21 & 15-21 scoreline.
- Similarly Kiran George after a decent run in Swiss open lost to Chia Hao Lee of Chinese Taipei by crushing 8-21 & 10-21 scoreline in the first round.
- Mithun Manjunath (Former National Champion) lost to higher ranked Wang Tzu Wei (TPE) by 11-21,12-21 score.
- S. Karunakaran (22 years old) was defeated by J. Teh (SGP) by 15-21, 19-21 scoreline.
Women’s Singles (WS) :-
- PV Sindhu won her first match against 21 years young Canadian Wen Yu Zhang with a convincing 21-16, 21-12 scoreline and advanced to the next stage.
- Ashmita Chaliha (WR 45) crashed out after fighting against former world champion Ratchanok Intanon by 11-21, 13–21 scoreline.
Men’s Doubles (MD):-
- MR Arjun & Dhruv Kapila won quite easily against Mexican opponent Job Castillo & L. Montoya with a 21-18, 21-17 scoreline.
- K Garaga and his teammate had to battle hard against the Canadian pair with the match going to the rubber set which was thankfully won by them with a score of 21-15, 28-30 & 21-11 scoreline.
Women’s doubles (WD):-
- Tressa Jolly & Gayatri Gopichand shockingly lost their first match against American pair Annie XU & Kerry XU by 18-21,22-20 and 18-21 scoreline. With this they may have missed their plane to Paris.
Mixed Doubles (XD):-
- The veterans BS Reddy & Sikki Reddy had won their hard fought match against Chen Zhi Rey & Yang Ching Tun(TPE) by 16-21,22-20 & 21-14 scoreline .
- The young pair of Karunakaran & Aadya lost their match against highly ranked Indonesian pair Rinov Rivaldy & P. Mentari (WR-17) . Score: 14-21,18-21.
