Indian contingent playing at the European leg of BWF tournaments in Switzerland were off to a really shaky start as all Five Mixed Doubles pairing from India lost their Round one matches

Playing in the BWF Super 300 event much was expected from the Indian teams after the good outing in the Year starting India leg.

Sai Prateek and Sikki Reddy who are playing their second tournament together got an entry in the main draw as the Top seed withdrew but couldn’t capitalise on the opportunity as they lost to the pair from Denmark Mikkel and Rikke 15-21,19-21. Both the Indians are playing in respective men and women doubles.

In the second match the young pair of Ishaan Bhatnagar and Tanisha Crasto who had won the Syed Modi Tournament at the start of the year squandered a golden opportunity to make inroads into the tournament losing out to WR29 Malaysian pair of Chen and Peck. The scoreline read 21-18,20-22,14-21

It was a quick loss for the pair of Venkat Prasad and Juhi Dewangan who lost to WR15 German pair in a match that didn’t last for even 25 minutes. They lost to Eighth seed Mark and Isabel 9-21,15-21

Much was expected from Treesa Jolly after her heroics at just concluded England Open but it wasn’t to be her day as she playing along with M R Arjun lost out to a formidable pair of Tan and Lai from Malaysia and are ranked WR10. Treesa and Arjun lost to the fourth seed 15-21,17-21

It was a difficult outing for the young pair of Dhruv Kapila and Gayatri Pullela as they lost to WR13 pair from Malaysia in straight games 18-21,15-21. The Indians only got into the draw as the other pair had withdrawn but ran into sixth seeds which was never going to be an easy match

Only one Indian pair remains alive in the contest in mixed doubles. It is the experienced Sumeeth Reddy and Ashwini Ponnappa who have made their way into the draw via the qualifying. They will be up against the WR11 pair from France and it remains to be seen how they fair in the round one match
