India managed to win only two of the five matches on Day Three of the championships

PV Sindhu & the doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy & Chirag Shetty will be looking to enter the Semi-Finals tomorrow as they enter the court in the Badminton Asia Championships 2022. India last won a medal at the championships in 2018 when HS Prannoy & Saina Nehwal lost the SemiFinal matches and hence were awarded the Bronze Medals.

This Championship did not take place in for the last two years and is making a return this year. And with the championship the Chinese are returning to the scene of Badminton. There are two Chinese men shuttlers in the Quarterfinals and both have defeated the Indians in the course.

Similarly there are two Chinese female shuttlers in the Quarterfinals. Wang ZY defeated Saina Nehwal to reach there while He Bingjiao awaits PV Sindhu there. The situation is same in Women Doubles & Mixed Doubles where two pairs from China have made it to the Quarters

The day for India started with start men doubles pairing of Chirag and Satwik making quick work of the Japanese pair. The match lasted less than 45 minutes. This was their first ever meeting and Chirag/Satwik took no risk and closed both the games quickly.

They won the match 21-17, 21-15. In what came as a surprise the top seed pair of Ahsan & Setiawan lost tamely against the Chinese pair. Going by the seedings the Semifinals was expected to be played between the #Daddies and the Indian pair. Can Satwik/Chirag take advantage of this situation it remains to be seen, they will meet the Malaysian pair next.

Sindhu Meets He Bing Jiao Next

Next on the court was PVS. The fourth seed of the tournament didnt dissapoint as she beats the 21 year old from Singapore Hooi 21-16, 21-16. After giving her fans a lot of nerve recking moments yesterday she ensured a smooth sail to the quarterfinals. She faces He Bing Jiao for the seventeenth time of her career. Sindhu currently has a H2H of 7-9 against her. The last they played was in the Bronze Medal match at #Tokyo2020.

The young pair of Ishaan & Tanisha who were the only Mixed Doubles pair to make it to the next round lost the match in straight games to the Seventh Seed Malaysians Tan & lai. The match lasted only 30 minutes with Ishaan & Tanisha losing 18-21,18-21.

The last match for Indians was between former World Number one Srikanth Kidambi & Hong Yang Weng from China. It was their first meeting. Srikanth did make a comeback in the second game after losing the first one 16-21 to win 21-17. However it wasnt to be Srikanth’s day as he eventually lost to the Chinese shuttler 16-21, 21-17, 17-21 in a match that went for more than one hour.
