India’s Avani Prashanth endured a difficult outing in the third round of the Amundi German Masters 2026, carding an 81 in demanding conditions to slip down the leaderboard at the Green Eagle Golf Courses near Hamburg.

After showing strong resilience earlier in the week to make the cut, the young Indian struggled to cope with the challenging weather and the demanding North Course layout during Saturday’s moving day on the Ladies European Tour.

The round marked a sharp contrast from her impressive second-round recovery and highlighted the fine margins that often define professional golf at the highest level.

Avani’s week had begun on a difficult note with an opening-round 78, leaving her in danger of missing the cut. However, the Indian responded impressively in the second round with a composed four-under 69, one of the better recovery rounds among the field. That performance not only secured her place for the weekend but also made her the only Indian golfer to progress beyond the cut line.

Her second round reflected the qualities that have increasingly made her one of India’s promising young golfers patience, controlled shot-making, and the ability to recover under pressure. However, maintaining that consistency on one of Europe’s tougher courses proved difficult.

The North Course at Green Eagle Golf Courses has developed a reputation as one of the more physically and mentally demanding layouts on the Ladies European Tour calendar. Combined with unpredictable weather conditions, scoring became increasingly difficult during the third round.

Avani struggled to find rhythm throughout the day. Unlike her second-round performance, where she capitalised on scoring opportunities efficiently, the Indian was unable to generate momentum in round three. She finished the day without a single birdie, while four bogeys and two double bogeys severely impacted her scorecard.

The lack of birdie opportunities also increased scoreboard pressure as the round progressed, forcing her into a more defensive rhythm.

By the end of the day, Avani had signed for an 81, dropping to nine-over-par after 54 holes.

Conditions played a major role in shaping the leaderboard throughout the tournament. Strong winds and fluctuating conditions made club selection difficult and placed added emphasis on course management. Players who missed fairways or struggled with approach precision were regularly punished by the demanding setup. For younger golfers like Avani, tournaments of this nature often become important learning experiences.

Managing difficult scoring conditions over multiple rounds remains one of the biggest adjustments players face transitioning into elite professional golf. The ability to minimise damage during poor stretches is often what separates experienced tour players from emerging talent. While the third round was disappointing from a scoring perspective, Avani’s ability to recover after the opening round and make the cut still remains a positive aspect of the week.

The tournament overall proved challenging for the Indian contingent. Pranavi Urs, who entered the week hoping to build momentum on the LET circuit, failed to make the cut after inconsistent opening rounds. Meanwhile, Vani Kapoor withdrew from the tournament following a difficult opening-round 83. That left Avani as India’s lone representative over the weekend rounds, increasing attention on her performance heading into the latter stages of the event.

Despite the setback in the third round, Avani Prashanth continues to remain one of the more closely watched young names in Indian women’s golf. Her performances over the past year have shown steady progress, particularly in adapting to international conditions and handling higher levels of competition. The second-round 69 in Germany reinforced her capability to compete effectively on the Ladies European Tour when conditions and rhythm align. At the same time, the third-round struggles underline the next stage of development required at elite level golf maintaining consistency over four rounds against strong international fields.

That process often takes time, especially for younger players balancing technical refinement with the physical and mental demands of tour golf.

With one round still remaining, Avani will now aim to finish the tournament positively and regain momentum after a difficult Saturday. Strong closing rounds in tournaments can often shift the overall narrative of a week and provide valuable confidence moving into upcoming events. For Indian women’s golf, exposure to high-level international tournaments remains critical. While immediate results fluctuate, regular participation against elite fields is essential for long-term progress.

The week in Germany may not have unfolded as Avani Prashanth would have hoped after her strong second round, but the tournament still offered important competitive experience on one of the tougher tests in women’s professional golf. How she responds in the final round could ultimately provide the clearest indicator of her growing maturity on the international stage.
