Pukhraj Gill Holds Nerve in Playoff to Clinch Maiden ADT Title in Kuala Lumpur

Pukhraj Gill delivered the most significant win of his professional career, clinching his maiden Asian Development Tour (ADT) title at the Players Championship presented by The R&A in Kuala Lumpur.
In a tournament defined by fluctuating momentum and late drama, Gill held his nerve through a tense three-way playoff to emerge victorious at the Saujana Golf and Country Club. The Indian golfer, who had been in contention throughout the week, eventually finished tied at 13-under alongside Thailand’s Thanawin Lee and the Philippines’ Sean Ramos. It took two extra holes in sudden-death to separate the trio, with Gill producing a composed finish to secure the title and a winner’s cheque of $19,250.
His winning moment came on the second playoff hole, where he calmly converted a six-foot birdie putt. As the ball dropped into the cup, Gill raised his arms and let out a roar an expression of both relief and achievement after a week where he had consistently been the player to beat.
“It took a long time coming. This feels surreal,” Gill said after the win. “I think it’s going to take a while to sink in, but I’m just so pumped right now. It’s been a great week in Malaysia.”
Gill’s victory was built on sustained consistency across all four rounds. He held at least a share of the lead from the end of the opening round, took sole control after the second, and entered the final day with a narrow advantage. Such wire-to-wire contention often brings its own pressure, but Gill managed to stay in the mix even as challengers closed in.
The final round, however, tested his composure more than any previous stage of the tournament.
Starting with a one-shot lead over Ramos, Gill came out aggressively, carding three birdies in his first four holes to stretch his advantage to five shots. At that point, he appeared to be cruising towards a comfortable victory. But the nature of tournament golf, especially on a demanding course like Saujana’s Palm layout, ensured that the contest remained far from settled.
Dropped shots on the sixth and ninth holes brought his rivals back into contention. Both Ramos and Lee capitalised, gradually narrowing the gap and setting up a tense back nine. The momentum swung further when Lee took the lead with a birdie on the par-three 12th.
Gill responded immediately, showcasing resilience by birdieing the par-five 13th after reaching the green in two. Yet, the closing stretch proved challenging. Three consecutive bogeys from holes 14 to 16 threatened to derail his campaign, putting him behind in a tightly packed leaderboard. What followed was a critical phase that ultimately kept him in contention. At the par-four 17th, Gill used his strength off the tee to produce a massive drive that sailed over the green. Although he narrowly missed chipping in, the resulting birdie opportunity ensured he stayed within touching distance.
Heading into the final hole, Lee held a one-shot lead at 14-under and appeared poised to close out the tournament. However, a poor chip and a missed 10-foot par putt saw him drop a shot, finishing at 13-under. Gill and Ramos, both making pars, drew level with Lee, forcing a playoff. The sudden-death playoff, contested on the par-five 18th, provided a fitting conclusion to an event filled with twists. On the first extra hole, both Gill and Ramos converted birdies, while Lee fell out of contention after finding a bunker with his third shot.
The second playoff hole saw Gill produce his decisive moment. From a greenside bunker, he executed a precise shot to within six feet of the pin. Ramos, meanwhile, found trouble off the tee and struggled with his approach. Gill then stepped up and calmly rolled in the birdie putt to seal the title.
“I made it a lot more interesting than I would have liked towards the end,” Gill admitted. “But to win after a playoff I feel like I’m on cloud nine. It’s only onwards and upwards from here.”
The victory marks Gill’s first international title and comes within months of his maiden professional win on the 2025 Indian Premier Golf League (IGPL) Tour. Representing Honer Homes Gurugram in the IGPL team format, he has steadily built a reputation for consistency and composure under pressure. His success in Kuala Lumpur also strengthens his position on the ADT Order of Merit, where he now sits third after four events. With upcoming tournaments on the calendar, including the IGPL Morocco Rising Stars event, Gill is well placed to push for a higher ranking.
The win also underscores the growing influence of the IGPL in developing Indian golfing talent. Gill becomes the second player from the circuit to win on the ADT, following Karandeep Kochhar’s success in Egypt. His acknowledgment of the platform highlights its role in providing competitive exposure.
“I wish to thank IGPL for providing us a great tour back home and to my team Honer Homes Gurugram,” he said.
For Indian golf, Gill’s triumph represents another step forward on the international stage. His ability to convert a week-long lead into a playoff victory demonstrates both technical skill and mental resilience qualities essential for sustained success.
As he looks ahead to the rest of the season, this win could serve as a turning point. Not just as a breakthrough result, but as a foundation for consistent contention at higher levels of the game.
