Khalin Joshi Returns to Winning Ways with Andhra Open Triumph

After more than three years away from the winner’s circle, Khalin Joshi delivered a composed and controlled performance to win the Andhra Open Golf Championship 2026, securing his seventh professional title.
The victory at East Point Golf Club in Visakhapatnam marked a significant moment in the Bengaluru-based golfer’s career, ending a prolonged wait since his last title in August 2022. Joshi finished the tournament at nine-under 275, built on rounds of 68, 68, 70, and 69. Across the four days, his consistency stood out more than anything else. While others produced flashes of brilliance, Joshi maintained steady scoring, avoiding major errors and capitalising on key opportunities.
Heading into the final round with a three-shot lead, Joshi was in control but still had work to do. The final day often brings added pressure, particularly when chasing players begin to attack the course more aggressively. Joshi’s approach, however, remained measured. He carded a two-under 69 in the final round, mixing five birdies with three bogeys. An early bogey could have unsettled his rhythm, but he responded quickly with a birdie on the fourth hole. That response set the tone for the rest of his round.
On the front nine, he focused on maintaining position rather than forcing shots. The back nine proved decisive. A crucial birdie on the 15th hole allowed him to extend his advantage and effectively put the contest out of reach. From there, he managed the closing holes without taking unnecessary risks, ensuring a comfortable four-shot victory. The win was built not on a single standout round but on sustained performance across all four days. Joshi did not drop out of contention at any stage and remained near the top of the leaderboard throughout the tournament. That level of control is often what separates winners from the rest in multi-day events.
Akshay Sharma emerged as the closest challenger. The Chandigarh golfer produced one of the best rounds of the tournament, carding a course-record 65 in the final round. His late surge pushed him to five-under 279, but the gap created by Joshi over the earlier rounds proved too large to overcome. Sharma’s performance highlighted the quality of competition in the field. However, Joshi’s ability to maintain consistency ensured that even a strong final-day push from his rivals was not enough to threaten his lead.
Saptak Talwar and Yash Majmudar finished tied for third, both delivering steady performances over the week. Their finishes added depth to the leaderboard, but like Sharma, they were unable to match Joshi’s overall consistency.
For Joshi, the victory carries significance beyond just another title. A gap of over three years without a win can test confidence, particularly in a sport like golf where margins are small and form can fluctuate. Returning to winning ways in such a manner indicates both technical stability and mental resilience. The result also had a direct impact on the rankings. Joshi earned ₹15 lakh in prize money and made a substantial jump in the DP World PGTI Order of Merit, moving from 55th to 12th position. This shift places him back among the leading players on the domestic circuit and strengthens his position for the remainder of the season.
From a performance perspective, the week showcased Joshi’s ability to manage different phases of a tournament. He started strongly, maintained position through the middle rounds, and handled the pressure of the final day effectively. This all-round performance is often required to secure titles at this level.
The venue, East Point Golf Club, presented its own challenges, requiring precision and course management. Joshi’s ability to adapt to the conditions and avoid high-scoring holes played a key role in his success. Looking ahead, the focus will now shift to sustaining this level of performance. The DP World PGTI season continues with upcoming events, including the Boulders Classic in Hyderabad. With confidence restored, Joshi will aim to build on this result and remain competitive in the coming tournaments.
Consistency will remain the key factor. While this victory marks a return to form, maintaining similar performances across multiple events will determine how his season progresses. The improvement in ranking also increases expectations, placing him back among the players to watch.
For now, the Andhra Open title stands as a clear statement. Khalin Joshi has returned to winning form, and the manner of his victory—controlled, consistent, and composed—suggests that he is well positioned to compete at the top level of Indian golf once again.
