India’s Pukhraj Singh Gill continued his impressive run on the Asian Development Tour, maintaining his position at the top of the leaderboard at the ADT Players Championship presented by R&A in Kuala Lumpur.

Despite a brief mid-round setback, Gill carded a composed 2-under 70 to move to 13-under overall, holding a slender one-shot lead heading into the closing stages. The Ludhiana-born golfer, who has emerged as one of the standout performers from the Indian Premier Golf League (IGPL), once again demonstrated his ability to manage momentum swings an essential skill in tournament golf. His round was a study in contrast, featuring both aggressive scoring and moments of recovery under pressure.

Gill began the day in dominant fashion. A remarkable eagle on the par-4 fourth hole set the tone early, showcasing both his length off the tee and precision in approach play. He followed that up with birdies on the sixth and eighth holes, quickly moving to 15-under and establishing a three-shot cushion over the field. At that stage, he appeared firmly in control of the tournament. However, golf rarely allows sustained dominance without challenge. Gill’s round took a turn at the ninth, where he dropped a shot with a bogey. The bigger setback came on the 11th hole, where a double bogey disrupted his rhythm and cut into his lead. In the space of three holes, he had given away three shots enough to bring his closest challengers back into contention.

What followed, though, was indicative of his growing maturity on tour. Rather than allowing the setback to derail his round, Gill stabilised with a sequence of pars, avoiding further damage on a course that had begun to test his control. His ability to reset mentally and maintain composure proved crucial. He regained momentum late in the round with a birdie on the 17th hole, ensuring that he finished the day under par and, more importantly, retained his position at the top of the leaderboard. His total of 13-under keeps him narrowly ahead of the chasing pack.

The closest challenger is Filipino golfer Sean Ramos, who produced one of the rounds of the day with a 5-under 67 to move to 12-under. Ramos’ consistency and upward movement add pressure heading into the final rounds, particularly given the narrow margin separating the two. Thailand’s Thanawin Lee sits third at 9-under after a round of 73, while the rest of the field trails further behind. Among the Indian contingent, Khalin Joshi managed a 71 to sit tied 33rd, while young Kartik Singh experienced a difficult day, slipping from inside the top 10 to tied 56th after a round of 81.

Several other Indian golfers, including Aman Raj, Aryan Roopa Anand, and Varun Parikh all associated with the IGPL missed the cut, highlighting the challenging nature of the course and competition.

Gill’s performance in Kuala Lumpur is part of a broader upward trajectory that began in the Indian Premier Golf League. Known for his long hitting off the tee, he claimed a title on the IGPL last season and backed it up with consistent performances that saw him secure the Order of Merit. That consistency has translated effectively onto the international stage. This season, Gill represents Honer Homes Gurugram in the IGPL’s team competition, a format introduced to add a new dimension to the league. His development within that competitive structure appears to have strengthened both his technical game and mental approach.

A key milestone in his journey came with his participation in the International Series Singapore, where he finished tied 26th. Reflecting on that experience, Gill acknowledged its impact on his confidence and preparation.

“That Singapore experience helped me a lot and I am very confident as the season gets along,” he said.

That confidence is evident in his current performance. Even during the challenging stretch in his round, there was no visible drop in composure. Instead, his recovery phasemarked by controlled play and minimal risk—suggests a player who understands how to navigate the ebb and flow of competitive golf. From a technical standpoint, Gill’s strength remains his driving distance, which allows him to attack shorter par-4s and set up scoring opportunities. However, his performance in Kuala Lumpur also highlights improvements in course management and shot selection, particularly in the latter stages of his round.

For Indian golf, Gill’s performance is another encouraging sign of emerging talent capable of competing internationally. His ability to translate domestic success into strong showings on the Asian circuit is a positive indicator for the depth of the sport in the country.

As the leaderboard tightens and the stakes rise, Pukhraj Gill finds himself in a familiar position—leading, but with challengers closing in. How he navigates the final stretch in Kuala Lumpur will determine whether this week becomes another milestone in his growing career.
