Ankita Raina wins Qualifying matches to enter WTA250 Warsaw Open in Poland

Top ranked Indian on WTA circuit won two competitive matches in qualifying rounds to enter the main draw of WTA250 competition in Poland.

She has entered the main round of the WTA250 tournament  which has the Top seed as local player Iga Swiatek who is the world rank one.

This is Ankita’s first main draw appearance at this level for this year. Earlier she had entered WTA250 in Libema when she lost in Q2 match while she had lost in first round of WTA1000 Dubai where she entered as a wild card.

The best results on singles for Ankita have come in W25 event in Jakarta where she was a finalist while she has had couple of semi final appearances in W40 events around the year.

She is expected to climb to 194 for the results she has got in the qualifying, a title this week can take her potentially to world rank of 110. Her career best is world ranking of 160.

Ankita has also been able to make it to qualifying in Wimbledon and French open, she in fact won her first round match in Paris.

The 30 year old from India will be up against World Rank 95 Jodie Burrage from United Kingdom. Jodie is coming of a decent season wherein she has a W60 title and a Final appearance at Newport on grass.

This is Ankita’s 12 appearance in main draw of Tour level tournaments. She holds a 2-11 record at this level and it will be interesting to see how she fares in this contest.
