Indian cricket legend Yuvraj Singh has officially launched the Indian Golf Premier League IGPL Tour 2025, a first-of-its-kind multi-city professional golf circuit designed to transform the sport’s ecosystem in India.
The inaugural tour tees off on September 10 at the Chandigarh Golf Club, marking the beginning of a landmark chapter for Indian golf.
The launch ceremony, held at the Hyatt Regency in New Delhi, was attended by top golfing officials and icons including Uttam Singh Mundy (CEO, IGPL), Cho Minn Thant (Tour Commissioner/CEO, Asian Tour), Champika Sayal (General Secretary, WGAI), Romit Bose (President, PGAI), and Indian golf stalwarts Shiv Kapur and SSP Chawrasia, both IGPL Icon Players.
Yuvraj Singh: “IGPL Can Change Golf Like IPL Did for Cricket”
Unveiling the tour, IGPL co-founder Yuvraj Singh spoke passionately about the vision behind the project:
“A golfer’s life is not easy. You have to make cuts to earn money and pay the bills. IGPL is providing a format for the younger generation where financial stress won’t hold them back. Just like the IPL changed cricket, IGPL can change the dynamics of golf in India. The equality of men and women playing together is very important. I hope this will change the face of Indian golf and inspire players to win medals at the Olympics.”
The IGPL Tour will be followed by the fast-paced IGPL League, a mixed-gender format designed to increase visibility, competitiveness, and fan engagement.
Partnership with Asian Tour
A major highlight of the launch was the announcement of a strategic partnership between IGPL and the Asian Tour, giving Indian players access to compete alongside Asia’s best. The collaboration includes a joint-sanctioned event at the Kensville Golf Resort (Ahmedabad) from November 27–30, one of the standout fixtures of the season.
Uttam Singh Mundy, CEO of IGPL, emphasized the significance of this tie-up:
“The pathway from domestic tours to higher tours is crucial for professional golfers. Our partnership with the Asian Tour creates that bridge for Indian players. This is just the start—it will only get bigger from here.”
Echoing the sentiment, Cho Minn Thant, CEO of Asian Tour, praised IGPL’s innovative approach:
“I see many similarities between IGPL and the Asian Tour. With multi-city expansion, including events in Sri Lanka and the UAE, IGPL is breaking traditional barriers. We are delighted to partner with IGPL on this journey.”

Building Inclusive and Sustainable Golf
IGPL’s vision extends beyond tournaments. The league has committed to gender inclusivity, ensuring equal opportunities for men and women. Partnerships with the Indian Golf Union (IGU) and Women’s Golf Association of India (WGAI) underline its goal of nurturing grassroots and women’s golf. The platform is also tapping into innovation with the launch of the IGPL Player Equity Pool, a pioneering initiative where players receive equity from startups tied to the IGPL ecosystem. Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with top global venture capital firms and incubators are also underway, ensuring long-term sustainability.
Champika Sayal (WGAI) welcomed the move:

The IGPL board, chairman, and governing council are expected to be announced in November, adding another layer of structure to the ambitious project. By combining multi-city visibility, inclusivity, grassroots development, and financial innovation, IGPL positions itself as more than just a domestic golf tour it is a movement to reimagine the future of Indian golf. As Yuvraj Singh summed it up, the IGPL Tour is not only about the present but also about building the foundation for India’s Olympic golf aspirations.
