Top seed and home favourite Manush Shah and Korea Republic’s Ryu Hanna emerged as the standout singles champions at the inaugural WTT Feeder Vadodara 2026, presented by the Sports Authority of Gujarat, with both players delivering composed performances in contrasting finals at the SAMA Indoor Sports Complex on Sunday.

While Manush showcased grit and resilience to script a stirring comeback in the men’s singles final, Ryu stamped her authority with a dominant run to the women’s singles crown and went on to complete a memorable double.

The maiden edition of the WTT Feeder Series in Vadodara, hosted by the Table Tennis Association of Baroda and implemented by Ultimate Table Tennis (UTT), marked another significant step in India’s growing role on the international table tennis calendar. With strong domestic participation and international presence, the tournament offered a competitive platform for emerging and established players alike.

In the men’s singles final, Manush Shah was pushed to the brink by seventh seed Payas Jain in a high-quality contest that tested both players’ temperament. Payas, who enjoyed a prolific week overall, started confidently and put the top seed under pressure by taking the first two games 11-7 and 12-10. His sharp returns and aggressive forehand play unsettled Manush early, raising the prospect of an upset.

However, backed by vocal home support, Manush responded with composure and tactical clarity. He began to vary the pace, tightened his placement, and gradually wrested control of longer rallies. The shift in momentum was evident as Manush took the next two games 11-6, 11-6, levelling the match and forcing a decider. In the fifth game, Manush’s experience came to the fore. Holding his nerve at crucial moments, he closed out the match 11-8 to seal a memorable 7-11, 10-12, 11-6, 11-6, 11-8 victory and lift the men’s singles title.

The women’s singles final, by contrast, was a one-sided affair. Korea’s Ryu Hanna brought an end to the impressive run of Indian qualifier Anusha Kutumbale with a commanding straight-games win. Ryu’s superior control, consistency, and ability to dictate rallies left Anusha with little room to manoeuvre, as the Korean wrapped up the title 11-6, 11-6, 11-5. Despite the loss, Anusha’s journey to the final stood out as one of the highlights of the tournament, underlining the depth of emerging talent in Indian women’s table tennis.

Ryu Hanna went on to cap an outstanding campaign by claiming the women’s doubles title as well. Partnering Yoo Yerin, Ryu overcame India’s leading doubles pair of Ayhika Mukherjee and Sutirtha Mukherjee in a closely fought five-game final. The Korean duo edged the contest 4-11, 11-9, 11-9, 4-11, 11-9, displaying composure in the decider to secure Ryu’s second title of the tournament.

While Payas Jain fell short in the men’s singles final, the Delhi-based player ensured that Vadodara would remain a highly successful stop on his calendar. Payas emerged as the most decorated Indian player of the event, clinching titles in both mixed doubles and men’s doubles.

In the mixed doubles final, Payas teamed up with Syndrela Das to produce a notable upset, defeating second seeds Harmeet Desai and Yashaswini Ghorpade. After dropping the opening game, Jain and Das raised their level significantly, combining smart placement with sharp net play to record an 8-11, 11-9, 11-3, 11-6 victory and claim the crown.

Payas then returned to the table alongside Ankur Bhattacharjee in the men’s doubles final, where the duo faced second seeds Aakash Pal and Mudit Dani. The final saw momentum swing back and forth, but Jain and Bhattacharjee held firm in the key moments to secure a 12-10, 11-7, 7-11, 11-8 win, completing Payas’ double triumph and underlining his consistency across formats.

The successful staging of the WTT Feeder Series 2026 in Vadodara highlighted the growing infrastructure and organisational capability supporting table tennis in India. With strong backing from the Sports Authority of Gujarat and efficient execution by UTT, the tournament provided valuable international exposure for Indian players while offering competitive opportunities against quality overseas opposition.

As the curtains came down on the inaugural Vadodara edition, the performances of Manush Shah, Ryu Hanna, and Payas Jain stood out, setting a positive tone for the remainder of the WTT Feeder Series season and reaffirming India’s rising presence on the global table tennis stage.
