Indian swimming star Srihari Nataraj has once again etched his name in the history books, this time in the 200m Freestyle event.
Competing at the Singapore National Swimming Championships, Srihari clocked 1:48.66, breaking his own previous national record of 1:49.73, set earlier in 2024.
His gold-medal-winning performance in Singapore not only secured the top podium spot but also marked a significant leap in Indian middle-distance swimming.

This feat is even more remarkable considering that freestyle is not Srihari’s primary event. Known predominantly for his excellence in backstroke, the Bengaluru-based swimmer has now firmly announced his arrival as a formidable force across strokes.
The nearly one-second improvement in the national mark reflects his growing strength, stamina, and adaptability in long-course events.
In addition to his historic win in the 200m Freestyle, Srihari also clinched a silver medal in the 100m Freestyle, clocking 50.16 seconds in the final. Though it wasn’t another record-breaking performance, it underlined his consistency and versatility in sprint and mid-distance freestyle events.
The Singapore meet served as a critical preparatory platform for Srihari ahead of major international competitions later this year. His recent form indicates he is peaking at the right time and could be a key medal hope for India at the upcoming Asian Age Group Championships and other continental meets.
With every stroke, Srihari Nataraj continues to push Indian swimming forward. A trailblazer in the pool, his performances are not just about breaking records—they’re about rewriting expectations.
As India inches closer to becoming a force in global aquatic sports, athletes like Srihari are laying the foundation. And if his latest performances are anything to go by, Indian swimming’s future looks faster than ever.
