The men’s 50–55 kg final at the Elite Men and Women National Boxing Championships promises a compelling contest after Jadumani Singh and Pawan Bartwal delivered commanding semi-final performances to book their places in the title bout at Gautam Buddha University, Greater Noida, on Friday.

Jadumani, the Boxing World Cup Finals silver medallist, produced one of the standout performances of the championships so far as he outboxed Amit Panghal, the 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medallist, to register a unanimous 5–0 victory. The result underlined Jadumani’s growing stature in Indian boxing and his ability to impose himself against one of the most decorated names in the domestic circuit.

Pawan Bartwal matched that dominance in the second semi-final, easing past Victor Singh of Manipur with an identical 5–0 verdict. The emphatic nature of both wins sets the stage for a highly anticipated final between two boxers who have looked a class apart in the 50–55kg category throughout the tournament.

The ongoing championships mark a significant milestone for Indian boxing, with the men’s and women’s National Championships being held simultaneously at the same venue for the first time. Over 600 boxers from across the country are competing in 10 weight categories each for men and women, reflecting both the depth and scale of participation in the domestic boxing ecosystem.

Jadumani’s Statement Performance

Jadumani’s semi-final bout against Panghal was widely viewed as one of the toughest matchups of the day, given Panghal’s experience and pedigree. However, Jadumani controlled the contest from the opening bell, showcasing superior footwork, sharp counter-punching, and ring awareness. He consistently beat Panghal to the punch, neutralizing the Commonwealth Games champion’s aggression and forcing the judges into a unanimous decision.

The performance reinforced Jadumani’s credentials as one of India’s most promising boxers in the lighter weight categories, particularly as he continues to build on his success at the international level.

In contrast, Pawan Bartwal’s route to the final was built on efficiency and composure. Against Victor Singh, Bartwal maintained control through all three rounds, dictating the pace and landing clean combinations while avoiding unnecessary exchanges. His disciplined approach ensured there was little room for doubt, as the judges awarded him a clear 5–0 win.

With both finalists entering the title bout on the back of dominant victories, the 50–55 kg final is expected to be one of the highlights of the championships.

The women’s competition also saw several top names advance to the finals with convincing performances. World champion Minakshi (45–48 kg), representing the All India Police, continued her impressive run by defeating Malika Mor of Madhya Pradesh with a unanimous 5–0 decision.

In the 48–51 kg category, two-time world champion Nikhat Zareen was tested by Kusum Baghel of Uttar Pradesh, eventually prevailing 4–1 in a split decision. While Nikhat was made to work harder than expected, her ability to adapt and control the latter stages of the bout ensured her place in the final.

Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain also lived up to expectations in the women’s 70–75 kg semi-final, dispatching Imroz Khan of Uttar Pradesh with a comprehensive 5–0 win. Lovlina’s reach and tactical control proved decisive, as she dominated the exchanges to move one step closer to another national title. In the women’s 51–54 kg category, Preeti delivered a polished performance to outclass Aarti Dhariyal of Uttarakhand by a 5–0 margin, underlining her consistency throughout the tournament.

Men’s Finals Take Shape Across Categories

Elsewhere in the men’s competition, several boxers secured their places in the finals with assured victories. Sachin advanced in the 55–60 kg category after defeating Bhupinder Singh of Punjab, while Hitesh Gulia proved too strong for Vivek of Rajasthan in the 65–70 kg division. Also booking their spots in the finals were Abhinash Jamwal (60–65 kg), Sumit (70–75 kg), and Narender (90+ kg), adding further intrigue to the championship deciders scheduled over the coming days.
