The seventh season of the Tennis Premier League, TPL Season 7 got underway with an action-packed opening day at the Gujarat University Tennis Stadium, as SG Pipers Bengaluru and Rajasthan Rangers registered impressive wins to kick-start their campaigns.
Making its debut in Ahmedabad, the league opened to a strong response from fans who witnessed top Indian and international stars compete on the distinctive charcoal-coloured courts.
All eight teams were in action across two closely fought ties, setting the tone for another high-intensity season of Asia’s premier tennis league. From experienced campaigners like Rohan Bopanna to rising Indian talent and established international names, the opening day delivered quality tennis and tight finishes.

The inaugural match of Season 7 saw SG Pipers Bengaluru face Gurgaon Grand Slammers. The tie began with the Women’s Singles encounter, where Shrivalli Bhamidipaty provided SG Pipers with a flying start. Displaying composure and aggressive baseline play, Shrivalli dominated Sahaja Yamalapalli to win 18-7, giving her team early momentum.
Shrivalli then returned to the court for the Mixed Doubles, pairing up with veteran Rohan Bopanna. The duo faced Sahaja Yamalapalli and Sriram Balaji in a fiercely contested contest. Using their experience and tactical awareness, Shrivalli and Bopanna edged out their opponents 14-11 to extend SG Pipers’ advantage.
Gurgaon Grand Slammers responded strongly in the Men’s Singles category. Former World No. 21 Dan Evans showcased his class and consistency, defeating Ramkumar Ramanathan 16-9 to bring his team back into contention. However, SG Pipers ensured they finished the tie on top in the Men’s Doubles. Bopanna and Ramkumar combined effectively to overcome the pairing of Sriram Balaji and Dan Evans with a 15-10 win, sealing a 56-44 victory for SG Pipers Bengaluru in their opening match.
The second tie of the day featured defending champions Hyderabad Strikers against Rajasthan Rangers. Hyderabad started well, with Carole Monnet delivering a commanding performance in the Women’s Singles. Monnet outplayed Ekaterina Kazionova 18-7 to hand the Strikers an early lead.

Rajasthan Rangers hit back in the Mixed Doubles, where Ekaterina Kazionova teamed up with Dhakshineswar Suresh. In a nail-biting contest, they narrowly defeated Carole Monnet and Vishnu Vardhan 13-12, keeping the tie finely balanced.

The Men’s Singles proved to be a turning point for Rajasthan Rangers. Italy’s Luciano Darderi produced a composed and attacking display to overcome Pedro Martinez 15-10, swinging the momentum in his team’s favour. Darderi then returned alongside Dhakshineswar Suresh for the Men’s Doubles and delivered a decisive performance. The pair dominated Vishnu Vardhan and Pedro Martinez 17-8, helping Rajasthan Rangers secure a close 52-48 victory and a winning start to their title challenge.
The opening day will conclude with two more encounters, as GS Delhi Aces take on Yash Mumbai Eagles in the third match, followed by Chennai Smashers facing Gujarat Panthers.
The Tennis Premier League continues to establish itself as Asia’s biggest tennis league, bringing together India’s leading players and international stars.
