Rajasthan United FC and Diamond Harbour FC shared the spoils in a tightly fought 1-1 draw in the Star Cement Indian Football League 2025–26 at the Vidhyadhar Nagar Stadium on Thursday.
A second-half penalty from Jonathan Fernandes gave the hosts the lead before substitute R. Ramdinthara struck late to ensure Diamond Harbour walked away with a valuable point.
The result keeps Diamond Harbour FC in second place on the table with 10 points, level with leaders Sreenidi Deccan FC, while Rajasthan United remain fifth with eight points from five matches. While neither side could fully assert dominance, the contest offered phases of high intensity, defensive resilience, and moments of attacking promise.
Cagey Opening with Few Clear Chances
The match began with both sides showing early intent, but neither was able to translate possession into clear-cut opportunities. Rajasthan United’s Jonathan Fernandes had the first sight of goal, firing wide from distance, while Diamond Harbour responded with a promising chance when Luka Majcen failed to convert a free header from a well-delivered cross by Jobby Justin.
As the game progressed, midfield congestion became a defining feature. Both teams struggled to build sustained attacking sequences, often resorting to set pieces and wide deliveries to create openings. Defensive organisation on both sides ensured that space was limited, forcing attackers into rushed or speculative efforts.

The closest the visitors came in the first half arrived through a chaotic sequence. Jobby Justin’s low cross caused uncertainty in the Rajasthan defence, with goalkeeper Bhabindra Malla Thakuri only able to parry the ball into danger. Antonio Moyano looked poised to capitalise, but a crucial last-ditch tackle from Pragyan Sundar Gogoi denied what seemed a certain goal.
Despite these moments, the first half ended goalless, reflecting the tactical discipline and cautious approach adopted by both teams.
Rajasthan United Take Control After the Break
The second half began with increased urgency from the home side, and their persistence paid off early. Thomyo Shimray’s pace troubled Robilal Mandi, who brought him down inside the box, leaving the referee with no hesitation in pointing to the spot.
Jonathan Fernandes stepped up and converted confidently, sending goalkeeper Dheeraj Singh the wrong way to give Rajasthan United a deserved lead in the 51st minute.
Buoyed by the breakthrough, Rajasthan United pushed forward in search of a second goal that could put the game beyond reach. Abhishek Ambekar came close with a powerful long-range strike that beat the goalkeeper but crashed against the crossbar. Shortly after, substitute Naoba Meitei also rattled the woodwork with another ambitious effort from distance, underlining Rajasthan’s growing dominance.
However, the inability to convert these chances proved costly.
Diamond Harbour Respond with Late Equaliser
Diamond Harbour gradually grew into the game as the second half progressed, showing greater intent in the final third. Their approach became more direct, with increased use of wide areas and quick transitions to stretch the Rajasthan defence.
Their persistence was finally rewarded in the 82nd minute. Antonio Moyano, who had been influential throughout the match, delivered a perfectly weighted through ball into the path of substitute R. Ramdinthara. Timing his run to perfection, Ramdinthara controlled the ball, drove into the box, and finished clinically from a tight angle to level the score.
The equaliser shifted momentum in favour of the visitors, who began to push aggressively for a winner in the closing stages.

The final minutes of the match saw both sides create opportunities in a frantic search for a decisive goal. Diamond Harbour came closest when substitute Hugo Diaz unleashed a left-footed effort that struck the crossbar, while Moyano continued to pose a threat with his movement and creativity.
At the other end, Rajasthan United nearly snatched victory in stoppage time when William Pauliankhum failed to guide his header on target from close range. Both teams showed urgency, but a combination of defensive interventions and missed chances ensured the scoreline remained unchanged.
For Rajasthan United, the performance will be viewed as a missed opportunity. Having taken the lead and created multiple chances to extend it, their inability to capitalise ultimately allowed Diamond Harbour back into the contest. However, their defensive structure and attacking intent, particularly in the early stages of the second half, remain positives.
Diamond Harbour, meanwhile, will take confidence from their resilience. Despite being second-best for large parts of the second half, they maintained composure and found a way back into the game. Moyano’s influence in midfield and Ramdinthara’s impact off the bench highlight the depth and adaptability within the squad.
The draw keeps the title race tightly poised, with Diamond Harbour staying level on points with Sreenidi Deccan FC at the top. Rajasthan United, while still within striking distance, will need to convert strong performances into wins to remain firmly in contention.
In the end, the contest reflected two evenly matched sides disciplined, competitive, and capable of moments of quality but ultimately separated by fine margins in front of goal.
