The RR Kabel Prime Volleyball League powered by Scapia delivered another day of high-octane action at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium as Mumbai Meteors battled past Kochi Blue Spikers in a five-set thriller, while Goa Guardians returned to form with a commanding straight-sets win over Kolkata Thunderbolts.
In one of the most dramatic matches of the season so far, Mumbai Meteors held their nerve to defeat the Kochi Blue Spikers in a gripping five-set contest. The Meteors, led by Player of the Match Karthik A, continued their unbeaten run and strengthened their position at the top of the standings with 11 points from four matches. Mumbai came out firing in the first set, with setter Om Lad Vasant orchestrating the attack and Norwegian blocker Petter Alstad Ostvik shutting down Kochi’s main hitter Erin Varghese with some impressive blocks. The Meteors’ solid defensive shape and quick transitions helped them take the opener 15-7.
However, Kochi were far from done. Coach Nishant Singh’s side regrouped impressively in the second set. The introduction of Hemanth and Amal K. Thomas injected energy into their attack, while Amrinderpal Singh stood tall in defence. A well-timed super point from Hemanth helped Kochi level the match, winning the second set 15-7. With momentum swinging their way, Kochi took control of the third set. Setter Moushin played a pivotal role, using quick passes and precise sets to open up gaps in the Mumbai block. Abhishek found his rhythm on the wings, scoring consistently to give Kochi a 2–1 advantage with a 15-13 third-set win.
But Mumbai, renowned for their resilience, fought back strongly. Veteran blocker Karthik A and setter Vipul Kumar were brought on to steady the ship, and their experience showed. Mumbai’s frontline, led by Mathias Loftesnes, rediscovered its attacking touch, while Amit Gulia provided crucial defensive receptions to help the Meteors claim the fourth set 15-8 and push the match into a decider.
The fifth set was all about composure, and Mumbai had more of it. Despite Kochi applying service pressure through Amal and Moushin, Shubham Chaudhary’s defensive presence at the net and Loftesnes’ attacking precision sealed the deal for Mumbai with a 15-11 win.
With this result, Mumbai Meteors remain table-toppers with 11 points from four games, while Kochi Blue Spikers continue to struggle, sitting ninth after five outings.
Goa Guardians 3–0 Kolkata Thunderbolts (15-11, 15-8, 15-6)
Earlier in the day, the Goa Guardians produced a clinical performance to dismantle Kolkata Thunderbolts in straight sets, bouncing back in style after a series of close defeats. The win, spearheaded by Player of the Match Rohit Yadav, pushed Goa up to fourth place in the standings, tied on 11 points.

Goa started on the front foot with Prince and Dushyant dominating the middle zone through a series of aggressive spikes. Setter Rohit Yadav controlled the rhythm beautifully, combining with Jerry Daniel, Chirag Sharma, and Nathaniel Dickinson to keep Kolkata guessing. Kolkata’s Matin Tavalkar tried to stem the tide with strong blocks, while Pankaj Sharma and Rahul K attempted to build momentum through serves. A thunderous super serve from Jerry Daniel, however, helped Goa edge ahead in the opening set. Despite Kolkata’s brief fightback, Goa’s composure saw them take the first set 15-11.
The second set followed a similar script. Goa’s aggressive approach continued to trouble the Thunderbolts’ backline. Chirag Sharma’s powerful serves and Prince’s timely blocks extended the lead. Kolkata made substitutions, bringing in Suryansh Tomar to bolster their attack, but Goa’s rhythm remained unbroken. With Rohit’s precise setting and Dickinson’s finishing touch, the Guardians secured the second set 15-8. By the third set, Goa were in complete control. Their confidence translated into fearless play Jerry and Chirag continued to test Kolkata’s defence, while Dushyant’s defensive coverage ensured that nothing dropped on their side of the court.
Dickinson’s super serve added to the tally, and despite Rahul K’s late efforts, Goa wrapped up the contest 15-6 with another Jerry Daniel special from the service line.
This straight-sets victory was not just about power it was a display of tactical discipline and teamwork. The Guardians’ balance between attack and defence stood out, marking them as a side capable of challenging the top teams as the league moves toward its mid-phase.
