India has named a balanced and strategically assembled squad for the 2026 Thomas & Uber Cup Finals, with a clear emphasis on blending proven performers with emerging talent.
Set to be held in Horsens, Denmark from April 24 to May 3, the prestigious team event will see India field competitive line-ups in both the men’s and women’s categories, headlined by Lakshya Sen, the Satwiksairaj Rankireddy–Chirag Shetty duo, and PV Sindhu.
Core Strength Remains Intact for Men’s Team
India’s men’s squad continues to rely on the core group that delivered the historic Thomas Cup triumph in 2022. The singles lineup features Lakshya Sen, Kidambi Srikanth, and H. S. Prannoy three players with the experience and temperament required in team competitions.
Lakshya, in particular, remains India’s primary spearhead in singles, capable of taking on top-ranked opponents and delivering crucial points. Srikanth and Prannoy provide depth and reliability, especially in high-pressure ties where experience often becomes decisive.
In doubles, the world-class pairing of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty continues to be India’s biggest asset. Their ability to dominate rallies and deliver consistent results against elite opponents makes them central to India’s chances. Supporting them are M. R. Arjun, returning from injury, and Hariharan Amsakarunan, along with Dhruv Kapila, who adds flexibility across doubles combinations.
The inclusion of Ayush Shetty marks one of the key talking points in the squad. The young shuttler has been rewarded for his performances on the senior circuit, reflecting a growing confidence in India’s next generation. Kiran George, another consistent performer, adds further depth to the singles department.

In the women’s competition, PV Sindhu continues to lead the side, bringing invaluable experience and pedigree. A multiple-time World Championship medallist and Olympic podium finisher, Sindhu’s presence remains central to India’s ambitions of progressing deep into the tournament.
Alongside her, Unnati Hooda has emerged as one of India’s most promising players, already collecting multiple senior titles at a young age. Her rapid rise adds a fresh dimension to the squad, particularly in matches where India needs to challenge higher-ranked opponents.
The team also includes Tanvi Sharma and Isharani Baruah, both of whom have been in strong form. Isharani’s recent semifinal run at the Orleans Masters and Tanvi’s consistent performances highlight a shift in Indian women’s singles towards a broader competitive base.
Devika Sihag’s inclusion follows her title-winning campaign at the Thailand Masters, further strengthening the squad’s depth. Collectively, this group represents a transition phase where emerging players are increasingly capable of complementing established names.

India’s women’s doubles unit will be led by the experienced pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand Pullela. The duo has been India’s most consistent combination on the international circuit and will be key to securing points in tight ties.
Tanisha Crasto adds versatility, while Kavipriya Selvam’s inclusion signals a forward-looking approach. Partnering with Simran Singhi, Kavipriya’s debut provides an opportunity to test new combinations and expand the pool of competitive doubles players. In team events like the Uber Cup, doubles matches often become decisive, especially when singles results are split. India’s ability to extract wins from these fixtures could significantly influence their overall campaign.
The selections were made based on BWF rankings as of March 10, ensuring that current form and performance metrics played a central role. However, the Badminton Association of India has also factored in team dynamics and flexibility.
“We have a good mix of youth and experience in both teams,” said BAI General Secretary Sanjay Mishra. “The senior players bring stability, and the youngsters are in great form. They’ve shown they can deliver at this level.”
This approach reflects a broader strategy building squads that are not only competitive in the present but also sustainable for the future.
India enters the Thomas Cup with the confidence of being former champions, but the competition remains intense, with traditional powerhouses like Indonesia, China, and Denmark posing significant challenges. For the women’s team, the objective will be to go beyond previous semifinal finishes. With a more balanced squad than in previous editions, India has the potential to challenge top-tier teams if key players deliver consistently.
The squads for the 2026 Thomas & Uber Cup Finals reflect a well-calibrated mix of experience and emerging talent. With established stars anchoring both teams and young players pushing the competitive envelope, India heads into the tournament with depth, flexibility, and growing confidence.
The challenge now lies in execution. In a format where every match contributes to the team outcome, consistency across singles and doubles will be crucial. If India can strike that balance, another strong showing on the world stage is well within reach.
