India’s boxing contingent delivered one of its most complete performances at the Asian Boxing Championships 2026, as the women’s team secured a remarkable clean sweep of semifinal berths, guaranteeing a medal for every participant.

The men’s team complemented the showing with six boxers advancing to the last four, underlining India’s growing depth across weight categories on the continental stage.

The standout story of Day 7 belonged to the women’s squad, where Meenakshi and Jaismine led from the front with dominant victories in their respective divisions. Their performances not only secured individual semifinal spots but also completed a rare sweep, ensuring that every Indian woman boxer in the draw finished among the medal winners.

In the 48kg category, Meenakshi produced a technically assured display against Japan’s Yuka Sadamatsu. From the opening round, she established control through precise footwork and well-timed combinations, consistently dictating the pace of the bout. Her ability to maintain distance while landing clean scoring punches left little room for her opponent to respond. The judges unanimously awarded her a 5-0 decision, reflecting the one-sided nature of the contest.

Jaismine followed with an equally commanding performance in the 57kg division, taking on China’s Ziyi Chen. Known for her aggressive yet composed approach, Jaismine executed her game plan with clarity, mixing attack with defensive awareness. She controlled exchanges in all three rounds, landing effective combinations while neutralising her opponent’s counters. The result a second 5-0 unanimous decision further reinforced India’s dominance in the women’s draw.

These victories capped an exceptional run for the Indian women, who have displayed consistency, tactical discipline, and mental composure throughout the tournament. With every boxer now assured of at least a bronze medal, the focus shifts to converting these semifinal appearances into finals and potential gold medals.

On the men’s side, India’s campaign gathered further momentum with three more boxers booking their places in the semifinals, taking the total number of Indian men in the last four to six.

In the 85kg category, Lokesh delivered one of the most controlled performances of the day, defeating Korea’s Gichae Kim with a unanimous 5-0 verdict. Lokesh maintained a steady rhythm throughout the bout, combining defensive solidity with effective counter-attacks. His ability to read his opponent’s movements and respond with precision ensured he remained in command across all rounds.

Akash, competing in the 75kg division, continued the trend of dominant Indian performances. Facing Turkmenistan’s Yhlas Bagtyyarov, he displayed sharp attacking intent from the outset, using his reach and timing to consistently land scoring punches. His aggressive approach, backed by disciplined defence, resulted in another comprehensive 5-0 win, securing his place in the semifinals.

Harsh Choudhary added to India’s tally with a strong showing in the 90kg category against Kyrgyz Republic’s Tynystan Alybaev. In what was a physically demanding bout, Harsh combined power with composure, managing the tempo effectively while landing decisive blows at crucial moments. His performance earned him a clear victory and a spot in the last four.

While the day brought multiple positives, it also saw Ankush (80kg) bow out of the competition following a defeat to Jordan’s Hussein Iashaish. Despite the loss, Ankush’s campaign reflected the competitive depth within the Indian squad, where even closely contested bouts have contributed to the team’s overall progress.

The combined success of both the men’s and women’s teams highlights a broader trend in Indian boxing—the emergence of a balanced and competitive unit across categories. The women’s clean sweep, in particular, stands out as a significant achievement, reflecting not just individual excellence but also the effectiveness of India’s development systems and preparation strategies.

From a tactical perspective, Indian boxers have shown improved ring management, better shot selection, and the ability to adapt mid-bout—key attributes required to succeed at the highest level. Equally important has been their composure under pressure, especially in bouts where maintaining control across all three rounds is critical.

As the championships move into the semifinal stage, the challenge intensifies. Opponents will now include some of the most accomplished boxers in the continent, many with world and Olympic-level experience. For India, the objective will be to build on the momentum generated so far and push for a strong conversion rate in the medal rounds.

The current results, however, already signal a successful campaign in terms of depth and consistency. With every woman assured of a medal and six men still in contention, India has positioned itself as one of the standout teams at the Asian Boxing Championships 2026.

The coming days will determine how many of these semifinal appearances translate into finals and titles. But as things stand, India’s boxers have laid down a clear marker this is a squad capable not just of competing, but of dominating at the continental level.
