The 2025 edition of the Taiwan Athletics Open concluded in style with India asserting its athletic prowess by finishing as the most successful overseas nation across both men’s and women’s events. India topped the Taiwan Athletics Open Medal Tally.
Held in Taiwan with participation from a wide range of Asian and Oceania nations, the meet served as a key international opportunity for athletes preparing for upcoming major competitions such as the Asian Championships and the World Championships.
Across three categories—Men, Women, and Mixed—India stood tall, topping the combined medal standings based on gold medals with an impressive 12 golds, including 6 in men’s events and 6 in women’s.
Clean Sweep Across Genders
India’s women athletes led from the front, finishing 1st in the women’s medal table with 6 golds, 2 silvers, and 1 bronze, totaling 9 medals. They were closely trailed by Australia (5 golds) and Korea (2 golds). The women’s team’s showing was comprehensive, with podium finishes spread across sprints, jumps, and throws, reflecting the growing depth in Indian women’s athletics.
In the men’s section, the story was no different. India again topped the gold medal count with 6 golds and 1 silver, narrowly edging out the TPE / Asian Training Squad (Chinese Taipei’s high-performance unit), which also tallied 5 golds but managed a higher overall count of 15 medals. Australia finished third in the men’s section with 4 golds and 12 overall medals.
Australia U23 and Japan Impress
Australia emerged as one of the best-performing foreign contingents after India, winning a combined 7 gold medals—5 in women’s and 2 in men’s events. Their strong relay teams and mid-distance runners were instrumental in delivering a total of 14 medals, making them the most consistent across both genders outside of India.
Japan, a traditional athletics powerhouse in Asia, also performed steadily, taking home 3 golds, 3 silvers, and 4 bronzes for a total of 10 medals. Their podium appearances came in technical events, notably in hurdles and jumps, where they displayed their usual precision and depth.
South Korea also finished in the top five, securing 3 golds and a total of 6 medals, while Thailand had a strong showing in women’s field events, contributing to their 2 golds and 9 total medals.
Host Nation Fielded Diverse Teams
Chinese Taipei, as the host nation, participated with multiple institutional squads such as TPE / Mizuno, TPE / Taipei City, TPE / Asian Medical, and others. While this made aggregation tricky, it allowed for broader athlete representation.
Collectively, these teams won a significant number of medals across all categories, particularly in the mixed events where they swept all the golds. However, no single TPE team surpassed India’s gold medal count in the overall ranking, making India’s success even more significant on foreign soil.

Vietnam and Philippines Among Emerging Contenders
Vietnam quietly put together an efficient campaign with 2 golds and 3 silvers, and the Philippines showed signs of resurgence, tallying 1 gold, 1 silver, and 2 bronzes. These performances hint at the growing competitiveness among Southeast Asian nations as they build towards continental events later in the season.
India’s clean sweep in the men’s and women’s gold medal standings at the 2025 Taiwan Athletics Open is a major boost to the country’s athletics program. With 12 golds and a total of 16 medals, the Indian contingent outshone all international and domestic rivals, despite not competing in the mixed events category.
The performances showcased the growing strength of India across multiple disciplines, and with upcoming competitions on the horizon, this meet will be a major confidence booster—both for seasoned campaigners and the rising crop of next-generation talent.
India’s showing in Taiwan proves that they are no longer a mid-table presence at regional meets—they are emerging as a serious contender at every level of international athletics.
