Indian distance runners Gulveer Singh and Seema are set to compete at The TEN, a prestigious World Athletics Continental Tour Silver level meet, scheduled for March 28.

The competition, which focuses exclusively on the 10,000m event, has quickly become one of the fastest and most competitive long-distance races on the global calendar.

Gulveer Singh will compete in the men’s main race, while Seema has been entered in the women’s B race, although there is a strong possibility that she may move up to the main race depending on the final field and withdrawals. Their participation marks another important step for Indian long-distance running as athletes seek exposure against elite international competition.

Gulveer Among Strong International Field

Gulveer Singh will line up against a competitive field featuring several accomplished distance runners from across the world. Among the notable athletes in the men’s race are Woody Kincaid of the United States, who holds a personal best of 26:57.57, along with Ahmed Muhumed (27:03.19) and Mohamed Guled (27:16.33) representing the USA.

The field also includes Efrem Gidey of Ireland (27:26.95), Mike Foppen of the Netherlands (27:39.00), Aaron Bienenfeld of Germany (27:39.82) and Ellis Cross of Great Britain (27:43.15). Japanese runner Kaisei Okada (27:37.06) and American Brian Barraza (27:37.54) are also among the entrants.

Against this backdrop of experienced international athletes, Gulveer’s entry is particularly encouraging for Indian athletics. His personal best of 27:00.22 places him in strong company and highlights the progress Indian long-distance running has made in recent years.

Competing at The TEN will provide Gulveer with an opportunity to test himself against world-class competition and potentially push for a faster time in a race known for producing personal bests.

Seema Eyes Step Up to Main Race

In the women’s category, Indian runner Seema has been entered in the B race with a personal best of 32:07.67 in the 10,000m. However, given her recent performances and competitive timing, there remains a realistic chance that she could be promoted to the main race field before the event begins.

The women’s main race features several athletes capable of running strong times. Among the leading entrants are Savannah Shaw of the United States (32:41.69), Taylor Werner (32:26.28) and Allie Kieffer (32:09.89).

British athlete Sarah Astin (32:19) and American runner Felicia Pasadyn (32:57.00) also add depth to the field. Meanwhile, Katie Watson and Jasmine Fehr are among the athletes capable of producing fast performances on the track. The presence of runners from countries such as the United States, Mexico, Spain, and the United Kingdom reflects the international appeal of The TEN meet.

The TEN has developed a reputation as one of the fastest 10,000m races in the world, with organisers focusing on creating ideal racing conditions. Pacemakers, competitive fields and favourable weather conditions often result in athletes achieving personal bests, national records and qualification marks.

For Indian runners like Gulveer Singh and Seema, participation in such events is crucial. Domestic competitions rarely offer the same level of pace and competition required to achieve world-class times. Exposure to high-quality races allows Indian athletes to improve race tactics, pace judgement and overall performance levels.

Indian distance running has gradually gained momentum in recent years, with several athletes producing competitive performances at continental and international events. Athletes like Gulveer Singh have shown that Indian runners can compete alongside international athletes in long-distance events. Participation in meets like The TEN also helps bridge the gap between Indian athletes and the global elite.

For Seema, the event presents an opportunity to further strengthen her position among India’s leading female distance runners. If she moves into the main race field, it would provide an even greater platform to challenge herself against stronger competition.
