Coumpound Archers and Men Recurve Shine At First World Cup

Archery World Cup Stage 1 is currently going on at Shanghai, China. Dhiraj Bommadevara, has set up a new national record of 693 in the qualification or the ranking round on Wednesday.

Dhiraj also bettered his personal best of 686 and finished at the third spot. Veteran Archer Tarundeep Rai is ranked at the 7th position after the ranking round with 684 points.

This is also his best performance at an international outing. Other two Indian Archers, Pravin Jadhav and Mrinal Chauhan were ranked at 25th and 81st spots respectively. Mrinal can’t compete further as he couldn’t secure his place in Top 64 .

As far as the Men’s Team of Dhiraj, Tarundeep and Pravin is concerned, they’re ranked at 2nd spot, thanks to their 2049 points. And as a result, they’ve earned a bye in the first round on Thursday.

Women’s Squad Disappoints!

Most of fans were hoping for a good comeback from the experienced Deepika Kumari, she could only manage 656 points and hence found herself ranked at the 30th position. Ankita Bhagat and Bhajan Kaur were ranked ahead of Deepika at the end of qualification event with 664 and 657 points at 15th and 29th spots respectively. Women’s Team is ranked at the Sixth Position.

Talking about the Mixed Team, Ankita will partner with Dhiraj, as they have 1357 points in combined. They’re ranked at fourth spot and hence will receive a bye in the first round. Komalika Bari did just enough to manage to play the next round.

Compound Team again Shines!

Both the Men’s and Women’s Team reached Finals in the compound Archery. The Indian Men’s Team of Abhishek Verma, Prathamesh Fuge and Priyansh beat South Korea 235-233 in the Semi Final. The SF was neck to neck after the first two rounds, but the Indian Trio managed to take a slender lead in the 3rd round by one point and they further improved it in the 4th round by 2 points.

The Indian Women’s Team comprising of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Aditi Gopichand and Parneet Kaur too reached Finals by defeating Estonia in the Semis convincingly 235-230 to reach the finals.

Both the Teams will play their respective finals on 27th . Men’s will face the Netherlands while Women’s will play against the Italian Team to win the Gold!
