Two-time Indian Super League champions Chennaiyin FC have announced the Indian Super Gaming League (ISGL) as their principal sponsor for the ISL 2026 season, marking a strategic collaboration between professional football and India’s rapidly expanding esports ecosystem.
Under the agreement, ISGL India’s first franchise-based esports league will feature prominently on the front of Chennaiyin FC’s matchday jerseys and training wear throughout the 2026 campaign. The ISGL logo will also receive strong visibility across the club’s digital platforms and at the Marina Arena during home fixtures, reflecting a partnership designed to engage a new generation of sports and gaming enthusiasts.
In addition to branding rights, ISGL will gain access to the club’s intellectual property, including logo and player image rights, as well as player engagement opportunities and key media inventory. The structure of the agreement indicates a long-term alignment between two performance-driven sporting platforms aiming to expand their influence among India’s youth.
Speaking on the collaboration, Chennaiyin FC COO Akhil Prakash described the partnership as a natural fit for the club’s evolving identity.
“We are delighted to welcome the Indian Super Gaming League as the Principal Sponsor of Chennaiyin FC for the ISL 2026 season. Our fan base is young, dynamic, and constantly seeking new experiences and gaming today sits at the heart of youth culture. Through this collaboration, we aim to create deeper engagement opportunities that connect football and gaming in meaningful ways, bringing our community even closer to the club,” Prakash said.

The partnership underscores a broader shift in the Indian sporting landscape, where traditional disciplines and digital competitive ecosystems are increasingly intersecting. Football clubs worldwide have begun exploring esports tie-ins as a way to expand fan engagement, and Chennaiyin FC’s move signals a similar strategic push within the Indian market.
Chennaiyin FC have been one of the more stable institutions in Indian football since their inception, consistently contributing to domestic talent development while maintaining a competitive presence in the league. The club’s decision to align with ISGL reflects a recognition of esports as a structured, merit-driven platform with long-term commercial and developmental potential.
ISGL, backed by its parent organisation LetsGameNow, has positioned itself as a national league focused on discovering and nurturing Indian gaming talent through a competitive, franchise-based structure. By combining structured competition with entertainment elements such as creators, live audiences, music and immersive fan experiences, ISGL aims to replicate the high-engagement ecosystem seen in mainstream sports leagues.

Commenting on the association, Gautam Badalia, Co-Founder of LetsGameNow, said the collaboration represents a convergence of shared values.
“At ISGL, our mission has always been to identify, nurture, and provide a platform for young talent to shine. Partnering with Chennaiyin FC as Principal Sponsor is a natural extension of that vision. Chennaiyin FC represents the footballing aspirations of Tamil Nadu on the national stage and shares our belief in building structured pathways for emerging talent. Whether in competitive gaming or professional football, excellence is driven by discipline, opportunity, and ambition,” he said.
From a commercial standpoint, the deal offers Chennaiyin FC a strong entry into India’s fast-growing gaming demographic, while ISGL gains credibility and mainstream visibility through association with an established football brand. The integration of branding across matchday kits, training gear and digital media suggests that both parties are looking beyond a conventional sponsorship model toward deeper collaborative activations.
The timing of the announcement is significant, coming just ahead of Chennaiyin FC’s ISL 2026 season opener against Mumbai City FC. The partnership will make its on-field debut during the Marina Machans’ opening four-game away stretch before the club returns to the Marina Arena for their first home fixture of the campaign against Mohammedan Sporting Club on March 13.
As Indian sport continues to professionalise across disciplines, cross-industry partnerships such as this reflect a growing recognition that the future fan ecosystem is hybrid — equally invested in stadium experiences and digital engagement. For Chennaiyin FC and ISGL, the 2026 season could mark the beginning of a model where football and esports do not compete for attention but instead amplify one another.
The ISL 2026 campaign will now not only test Chennaiyin’s on-field ambitions but also serve as a live case study in how traditional sport and competitive gaming can co-exist under a unified brand narrative aimed at India’s next generation of fans.
