A determined performance from Jamshedpur FC saw them secure a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Inter Kashi FC in the Indian Super League at the JRD Tata Sports Complex on Friday, March 6, 2026.

A second-half goal from captain Stephen Eze proved to be the difference as the Men of Steel held on despite playing the majority of the match with ten men. The victory marked Jamshedpur’s fourth consecutive win of the campaign, keeping them second in the standings with 12 points, trailing leaders Mohun Bagan Super Giant only on goal difference.

Inter Kashi, meanwhile, suffered their first defeat of the season and remain sixth with five points from their opening matches.

Early Chances for Both Sides

Jamshedpur FC head coach Owen Coyle retained the same starting XI that had secured a 2–1 win against East Bengal FC in the previous fixture. On the other hand, Inter Kashi manager Antonio Habas made one change to his lineup, bringing in right-back Prasanth Karuthadathkuni in place of Narender.

Jamshedpur continued to probe early on, with Raphael Bouli attempting a long-range effort in the 16th minute after being set up by Nikhil Barla during a quick transition, though his shot went wide.

Inter Kashi soon responded with their own attacking threat. In the 17th minute, Alfred Planas came close to breaking the deadlock when his left-footed shot from inside the box narrowly missed the target.

The match took a dramatic turn just a minute later. Jamshedpur winger Vincy Barretto was shown a straight red card for a high challenge on Sandip Mandi, reducing the hosts to ten men with more than seventy minutes still to play.

Sensing an opportunity, Inter Kashi increased their attacking intensity. Players such as Tomba Singh, Nishchal Chandan, and Sumeet Passi pushed forward in search of the opener.

Despite being a man down, Jamshedpur continued to create opportunities. In the 29th minute, Madih Talal attempted a curling free-kick from distance that sailed just over the top corner. Inter Kashi also threatened through Rohit Danu, who headed wide from a cross delivered by Passi.

Gomes Keeps Jamshedpur in the Game

The visitors continued to apply pressure as the first half progressed. Tomba Singh’s effort from outside the box was blocked by the Jamshedpur defence before goalkeeper Albino Gomes produced an excellent save in the 44th minute to deny Prasanth Karuthadathkuni. Despite Inter Kashi’s sustained attacking spells, the first half ended goalless, with Jamshedpur showing resilience and defensive discipline.

Inter Kashi resumed the second half on the front foot. Tomba Singh tried his luck from distance in the 50th minute, but his shot drifted narrowly wide. Prasanth Karuthadathkuni also attempted an effort from the right side of the penalty area four minutes later, but he failed to test Gomes.

Jamshedpur eventually broke the deadlock in the 57th minute through a set-piece. Talal delivered a beautifully curled free-kick into the penalty area, where captain Eze found space and guided the ball into the net with his thigh to give the hosts a 1–0 lead.

The goal proved to be a crucial moment in the match, lifting the home side and putting pressure on Inter Kashi to find a response.

After conceding, Inter Kashi threw players forward in search of an equaliser. However, Gomes remained alert in goal, producing several crucial saves to protect Jamshedpur’s lead. The hosts nearly doubled their advantage in the 74th minute when Bouli struck the post following a swift counterattack initiated by Talal.

Inter Kashi continued to threaten through set-pieces and long-range efforts. Nishchal Chandan headed wide from a corner, while Tomba Singh again tested Gomes with a powerful strike from distance. Substitute Fedor Petkevičius came close in the 83rd minute but dragged his shot wide as the visitors pushed desperately for a late equaliser.

Jamshedpur also had late chances to extend their lead, with substitute Rei Tachikawa and Rosenberg Gabriel both seeing their attempts denied. However, Inter Kashi were unable to find the breakthrough they sought, as Jamshedpur’s defence held firm until the final whistle.

The victory underlined Jamshedpur FC’s resilience and tactical discipline under Owen Coyle. Despite playing most of the match with ten men, the Men of Steel managed to control key moments and capitalise on a set-piece opportunity. Captain Stephen Eze’s decisive strike ensured that Jamshedpur maintained their unbeaten start to the season and kept pace with Mohun Bagan in the race at the top of the ISL standings.

For Inter Kashi, the defeat represents a setback after an encouraging start to their campaign, though their attacking intent and control for large spells will offer positives as they prepare for the upcoming fixtures.
