Bengaluru Gears Up for a Blockbuster Tennis Season

The city of Bengaluru is all set to serve up an action-packed tennis season, hosting three marquee international events that will put Karnataka at the centre of Indian tennis.

From the Billie Jean King Cup Play-Offs this November to the 10th edition of the Bengaluru Open in January and the KPB Trust Women’s Open ITF W100 later in 2026, the SM Krishna Tennis Stadium will be buzzing with world-class talent and high-stakes matches. The upcoming season marks one of the most significant periods in the state’s tennis history, with Bengaluru preparing to welcome global names and Indian stars across both the ATP and WTA circuits.

The tennis calendar kicks off with the Billie Jean King Cup Play-Offs, scheduled from November 14–16, 2025 a landmark occasion as India hosts this prestigious event for the first time.

Team India, led by Ankita Raina, will feature Shrivalli Bhamidipaty, Sahaja Yamalapalli, Prarthana Thombare, and Riya Bhatia, facing off against Slovenia and the Netherlands for a spot in the 2026 Billie Jean King Cup Qualifiers. Slovenia’s line-up includes top players Tamara Zidanšek and Kaja Juvan, while the Netherlands team will be headlined by Arantxa Rus and Demi Schuurs.

The visiting squads are set to arrive early in the month Slovenia on November 7 and the Netherlands on November 9 ahead of the high-stakes weekend.

Encouraging fans to show their support, Shri Priyank M Kharge, Minister for IT/BT and Rural Development & Panchayat Raj, Government of Karnataka, and Senior Vice President of the KSLTA, said:

“These are exciting times for tennis in Karnataka. Very few cities have the privilege of hosting events of this scale, and it’s a special moment for Bengaluru to welcome some of the world’s best players. I urge fans to come out, fill the stands, and experience world-class tennis at their doorstep.”

Adding to the sentiment, Shri Maheshwar Rao, IAS, Commissioner, Greater Bengaluru Authority and Hon. Secretary, KSLTA, highlighted the city’s growing global reputation:

“Bengaluru has earned its place on the world tennis map. Hosting the Billie Jean King Cup, the Bengaluru Open, and the ITF W100 reflects our ability to blend world-class infrastructure with passionate tennis audiences.”

Shri Chethan R, IPS, Commissioner, Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, Karnataka, called it a milestone moment for women’s sport in the region:

“This event will inspire not only professional players but aspiring athletes across the state. It’s a major step forward for women’s tennis and a rare opportunity for fans to watch international tennis right here in Bengaluru.”

Bengaluru Open Returns for 10th Edition (Jan 5–11, 2026)

Following the Billie Jean King Cup, attention will turn to the Bengaluru Open, which celebrates its 10th edition from January 5–11, 2026. The ATP Challenger event, recently upgraded to a Challenger 125 category, now offers a prize purse of USD 235,000 and 125 ATP ranking points for the winner. Over the years, the Bengaluru Open has become a pivotal platform for emerging international talent while consistently rewarding Indian excellence.

Past Indian winners include Sumit Nagal (2017) and Prajnesh Gunneswaran (2018), while doubles stalwart Ramkumar Ramanathan has lifted the trophy three times twice with Saketh Myneni and once with Purav Raja.

In the most recent edition, Anirudh Chandrasekar and Ray Ho of Chinese Taipei captured the doubles title, underscoring the tournament’s reputation for producing thrilling encounters and memorable moments.

KPB Trust Women’s Open ITF W100 to Follow Later in 2026

Adding further depth to the calendar, the KPB Trust Women’s Open ITF W100 Bengaluru will return for its fifth edition later in 2026. With a prize purse of USD 100,000, the event will again rank among the biggest ITF World Tennis Tour tournaments globally. The 2025 edition, won by Germany’s Tatjana Maria, attracted a strong international field, while the American duo Jessi Annie and Jessica Failla claimed the doubles crown. The tournament continues to play a pivotal role in promoting women’s tennis in India through the support of the KPB Family Trust, led by Mr. KP Balraj, which has championed women’s sports and entrepreneurship since 2021.

As Bengaluru prepares for a packed season, the events collectively symbolize the city’s emergence as a hub for global tennis in India. From elite team competition in the Billie Jean King Cup to professional ATP and ITF events, the SM Krishna Tennis Stadium will once again stand as a showcase of sporting excellence. The coming months promise not just top-tier competition, but also a celebration of the growing tennis culture in Karnataka where fans, players, and the city itself come together to embrace a new era for Indian tennis.
