Indian wrestling’s long-awaited professional revival gathered momentum on Friday as Aspect Sports, the sports arm of Aspect Global Ventures, in partnership with infrastructure major APCO Infratech, announced the acquisition of the Mumbai franchise of the Pro Wrestling League (PWL).

The franchise will compete under the name Tiigers of Mumbai Dangals when the league returns in 2026 after a six-year hiatus.

Launched in 2015, the Pro Wrestling League rapidly established itself as India’s premier professional wrestling competition, blending elite domestic talent with top international stars. Over four successful seasons, the league played a crucial role in raising the profile of Indian wrestling, providing athletes with consistent high-level competition and exposure beyond the traditional tournament circuit. Operations were paused in 2019, but its return now signals a renewed commitment to structured, professional wrestling in the country.

For Aspect Sports, the acquisition marks its formal entry into the Pro Wrestling League and an expansion of its growing presence across Indian professional sport. The organisation has already built a recognisable ‘Tiigers’ brand through its ownership of franchises in multiple leagues, and the Mumbai Dangals extend that identity into one of India’s most prominent sporting markets.

The move reflects Aspect Sports’ broader vision of creating professionally managed teams that combine performance excellence with long-term ecosystem development. Mumbai, with its deep-rooted sporting culture and large, diverse fan base, offers a strategic platform to grow wrestling’s appeal beyond its traditional heartlands while maintaining the sport’s competitive authenticity.

As part of the franchise’s foundation, Tiigers of Mumbai Dangals have appointed Chandra Vijay Singh as Head Coach. A highly respected figure in Indian wrestling circles, Singh brings extensive experience at the national level and a proven track record in the Pro Wrestling League, having guided teams to two PWL titles in previous editions. His appointment provides immediate technical credibility and leadership as the franchise prepares for its debut season.

Speaking on the acquisition, Aksha Kamboj, Executive Chairperson of Aspect Global Ventures and Owner of Tiigers of Mumbai Dangals, underlined the long-term intent behind the move. “The acquisition of Tiigers of Mumbai Dangals marks an important step in the continued growth of Aspect Sports. Our vision has always been to build professionally run teams that contribute meaningfully to the development of sport in India,” she said. “Mumbai is a city with a deep sporting culture and immense energy, and we see this franchise as an opportunity to build a strong connect with the city while creating a competitive, high-performance team.”

Kamboj also highlighted wrestling’s cultural significance in India. “Wrestling has a strong cultural foundation in the country, and through this franchise, we are committed to nurturing talent, building excellence, and strengthening the sporting ecosystem,” she added.

APCO Infratech, one of India’s leading infrastructure development companies, joins the project as a strategic partner. RP Singh, Director of APCO Infratech, expressed confidence in the league’s return and the partnership with Aspect Sports. “We are pleased to partner with Aspect Sports in bringing the Tiigers of Mumbai Dangals to the Pro Wrestling League. The league’s return represents a strong opportunity to support Indian wrestling at a professional level, and we look forward to contributing to the growth of the sport through this association,” he said.

Tiigers of Mumbai Dangals will compete in the 2026 season of the Pro Wrestling League, which is set to feature six teams from across the country. The upcoming fifth edition is expected to showcase a strong pool of elite Indian wrestlers, reinforcing PWL’s role as a key pillar in the sport’s professional pathway.

The player auction, scheduled for January 3, 2026, is poised to be one of the most closely watched events ahead of the season. Several of India’s leading wrestlers are set to go under the hammer, including Olympic medallist Aman Sehrawat, world-class performers Antim Panghal, Deepak Punia and Anshu Malik, as well as Lalita Sehrawat, Mansi Ahlawat, Kiran Bishnoi and Chirag Chikkara, among others. The auction will shape team identities and competitive balance as the league prepares for its return from January 16 to February 1, 2026.

With Mumbai as its home base, Tiigers of Mumbai Dangals aim to present wrestling in a contemporary, high-intensity format that resonates with urban audiences while staying true to the sport’s traditional values of discipline, resilience and competitive spirit. As the Pro Wrestling League returns to the spotlight, the entry of new ownership groups like Aspect Sports and APCO Infratech reflects growing confidence in wrestling’s professional future in India.
