Indian golfer Anirban Lahiri moved into the top 10 after the second round of the LIV Golf Hong Kong, delivering a composed performance at the historic Hong Kong Golf Club.
Lahiri followed his opening round of 66 with an impressive 65 on Friday to reach nine-under par, placing him tied for 10th on the leaderboard after 36 holes. The strong showing kept the Indian within striking distance of the leaders heading into the final stages of the tournament.
At the top of the leaderboard, Dean Burmester and Carlos Ortiz shared the lead, with Lahiri trailing the co-leaders by five strokes.
Lahiri Finds Momentum with Back-to-Back Low Rounds
The Crushers GC star began the tournament with a four-under 66, a round highlighted by steady iron play and confident putting on the tight layout at Fanling. On the second day, Lahiri improved further, carding a five-under 65 to climb into the top tier of the leaderboard.
Across the two rounds, Lahiri’s game has been characterised by efficiency and smart course management — crucial qualities on a layout that demands accuracy rather than raw power. With a cumulative score of 131 (-9) after two rounds, the Indian veteran placed himself among the contenders as the tournament moved into its decisive stages.
The performance also reflects Lahiri’s comfort on Asian courses, where shorter layouts reward strategic play and precision off the tee.

While Lahiri’s progress into the top 10 was one of the notable stories of the second round, the leaderboard was dominated by two in-form players.
South Africa’s Dean Burmester and Mexico’s Carlos Ortiz emerged as co-leaders, each producing consistent scoring to reach the top of the field. Both players have enjoyed strong seasons on the LIV Golf League, and their performances in Hong Kong have reinforced their status as serious contenders for the title.
With Lahiri five shots behind, the Indian still remained well within range, particularly on a course where birdie streaks can quickly change the standings.
Extraordinary Journey to Hong Kong
The tournament has also been shaped by an unusual off-course storyline involving several LIV Golf players who were stranded in Dubai due to travel disruptions. Among those affected was Thomas Detry, who eventually managed to reach Hong Kong with the help of Jon Rahm, captain of Legion XIII.
Rahm helped arrange a private flight to transport seven players and a caddie to Hong Kong in time for the event. Detry, who is competing in his first season on LIV Golf, has turned the challenging travel situation into a remarkable performance.
After two rounds, he climbed into solo third place at 13-under par, following a superb seven-under 63 in the second round.
Rahm Surges into Contention
Rahm himself has also surged into the leaderboard mix with an outstanding performance. The Spanish star fired a ten-under 62 in the second round, one of the lowest scores of the tournament so far. That round moved him to 12-under par, placing him fourth heading into the weekend and firmly in contention for the title.
Rahm’s combination of power and precision has been particularly effective on the Fanling course, where the narrow fairways demand disciplined shot selection.

The Hong Kong Golf Club course in Fanling is among the most distinctive venues on the LIV Golf calendar. Unlike many modern layouts designed for long hitters, Fanling emphasises accuracy, creativity and course management. Tree-lined fairways, tight landing areas and small greens require players to rely heavily on their approach play and short game.
For Lahiri, whose strengths include putting and scrambling, the course presents an opportunity to compete with some of the longest hitters in the field. His ability to maintain consistency over the first two rounds suggests that the layout suits his game.
Crushers GC Eye Team Success
Beyond the individual competition, Lahiri is also competing for Crushers GC, the team led by Bryson DeChambeau. The LIV Golf format combines individual and team events, meaning every player’s score contributes to the overall team performance.
Lahiri’s strong start has helped keep Crushers GC competitive in the team standings, where consistency across all four players is essential. With two rounds remaining, the team competition remains wide open.
A Chance to Push for a Podium Finish
For Lahiri, the final rounds in Hong Kong present an opportunity to push for one of his best results of the LIV Golf season. Since joining the LIV circuit, the Indian golfer has produced several strong performances but is still chasing a breakthrough victory. A top-10 position after two rounds places him firmly within reach of a podium finish if he can continue his current form.
Given the relatively tight leaderboard and the birdie opportunities available at Fanling, a strong third round could quickly move him closer to the leaders.

The LIV Golf Hong Kong event is one of the key stops early in the season, offering valuable momentum for players aiming to build consistency throughout the campaign. For Lahiri, maintaining his position inside the top 10 would represent another positive step in a season where he has been striving to convert solid performances into title contention.
With the tournament entering its decisive phase, the Indian golfer will be hoping to carry his strong start into the weekend and mount a charge toward the leaders. If he can maintain the level of precision and confidence he has shown over the opening two rounds, Lahiri could yet find himself challenging for one of the biggest results of his LIV Golf career.
