The YONEX-SUNRISE India Open 2026 is set to be one of the marquee stops on the international badminton calendar, bringing the world’s best shuttlers to New Delhi for a week of elite competition.

As a BWF World Tour Super 750 event, the tournament carries significant ranking points, substantial prize money, and major implications for the global pecking order. Here is a comprehensive look at what to expect from the 2026 edition.

Hosts India will field a sizeable contingent of 17 entries across the five categories, with women’s doubles emerging as the most heavily represented discipline with five Indian pairs. In men’s singles, India will rely on a seasoned and in-form group featuring Lakshya Sen, HS Prannoy, Kidambi Srikanth, and rising star Ayush Shetty.

The women’s singles draw will see India led by PV Sindhu, a former world champion and Olympic medallist, alongside Malvika Bansod, who continues to establish herself at the top level.

India’s strongest medal hopes traditionally lie in the doubles events. In men’s doubles, Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy headline the field, supported by Hariharan Amsakarunan and MR Arjun. The women’s doubles lineup includes established and emerging combinations such as Treesa Jolly/Gayatri Gopichand, Shruti Mishra/Priya Konjengbam, Rutuparna Panda/Swetaparna Panda, Kavipriya Selvam/Simran Singhi, and Gayatri Rawat/Mansa Rawat.

In mixed doubles, India will be represented by Dhruv Kapila/Tanisha Crasto, Rohan Kapoor/G Ruthvika Shivani, Ashith Surya/Amrutha Pramuthesh, and Dhruv Rawat/Maneesha K, reflecting the growing depth in the discipline.

Star-Studded International Field

The India Open 2026 will feature a formidable international lineup. Men’s singles will see the presence of world No. 1 and reigning world champion Shi Yu Qi, World Tour Finals winner Christo Popov, Olympic silver medalist Kunlavut Vitidsarn, and Indonesia’s Jonatan Christie.

In women’s singles, world No.1 An Se Young leads a strong field that includes Wan Zhi Yi and former world champion Akane Yamaguchi. The doubles categories are equally stacked, with the celebrated Korean men’s doubles pair Kim Won Ho/Seo Seung Jae, women’s doubles stars Liu Sheng Shu/Tan Ning, and top-seeded mixed doubles combination Jiang Zhen Bang/Wei Ya Xin headlining their respective draws.

The tournament will feature 206 players from 20 countries, with 32 entries in each category. Entry is based on the BWF World Rankings, with the top-ranked players and pairs gaining direct qualification. Any withdrawals are filled by the next eligible ranked entrants, ensuring a high-quality competitive field.

All five categories men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles will follow a straight knockout format. Matches are played in a best-of-three games system, with each game played to 21 points and a minimum two-point margin required to win.

Ranking Points and Prize Money

As a BWF World Tour Super 750 event, the India Open offers substantial ranking points. Champions earn 11,000 points, while runners-up receive 9,350 points. Semi-finalists collect 7,700 points, with quarter-finalists, round-of-16, and round-of-32 finishers earning 6,050, 4,320 and 2,660 points respectively.

The total prize purse stands at USD 950,000, unchanged from last year. Singles champions will take home USD 66,500, while winners in men’s, women’s and mixed doubles will earn USD 70,300 per pair.

Venue, Broadcast and Sponsors

The action will unfold at the iconic Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi, India’s largest indoor arena with a seating capacity of 8,000 and a venue rich in badminton history, having hosted the sport during the 1982 Asian Games. In India, the tournament will be broadcast live on Eurosport and Eurosport HD, with live streaming available on BAI Media and BWF TV on YouTube. Tickets are available via Ticmint, starting at INR 400.

Organized by the Badminton Association of India, the tournament is titled by YONEX-SUNRISE, with HSBC as the BWF World Tour title sponsor, alongside a strong roster of institutional and corporate partners supporting the event.
