Ajay Singh Re-Elected as Boxing Federation of India President in Landmark Elections, Pramod Kumar Secures Secretary General Post

Pon Baskaran elected Treasurer to oversee financial stewardship of BFI

The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) on Thursday concluded its much-anticipated elections, with Ajay Singh re-elected as President in a decisive contest. Singh, who has been at the helm of Indian boxing during a transformative period, secured 40 votes against challenger Jaslal Pradhan’s 26, reaffirming the trust of state associations in his leadership. The election saw participation from 34 state associations representing 66 votes. Apart from the presidential contest, key positions including Secretary General, Treasurer, and Vice Presidents were also decided.

In the Secretary General race, Uttar Pradesh’s Pramod Kumar emerged victorious with 36 votes against former treasurer Digvijay Singh, who polled 30. Kumar, widely respected for his role in streamlining domestic championships, will now be tasked with overseeing the federation’s administrative backbone. The Treasurer’s position witnessed a three-way contest. Tamil Nadu’s Pon Baskaran clinched the role with 28 votes, edging out rivals Anil Kumar Bohidar and R. Gopu, and will now handle the federation’s financial responsibilities.

Speaking after his victory, Ajay Singh said:

“This victory is a reaffirmation of the trust and faith my colleagues from across the country have placed in me. It is not just a mandate, but a recognition of the relentless work we have done together to take Indian boxing forward. I would like to thank Mr. Fairuz Mohamed, Chairperson, BFI Interim Committee and Observer, World Boxing, for conducting a free and fair election. I also extend my heartfelt congratulations to all the newly elected office bearers. With the World Championship and World Cup ahead, our singular focus will be on enabling our boxers to deliver their best, bring home medals, and make India proud.”

He further added that grassroots development will remain a priority:

“My foremost commitment is to ensure that every ounce of energy now goes into strengthening grassroots programs, empowering our junior and youth athletes, and building on India’s growing stature in world boxing.”

The elections mark the end of the Interim Committee’s tenure, which had been steering BFI through a crucial transition. Under Singh’s stewardship, both as President and later as Interim Committee Chairman, the federation managed to ensure timely organization of national championships across all age categories, safeguarding athletes’ pathways to international competitions.

During this period, Indian boxers also achieved commendable results on the world stage, underscoring the country’s rising profile in global boxing. Singh’s re-election signals continuity, with stakeholders expecting stability and renewed momentum ahead of major international assignments.

With a full-fledged leadership team now in place, the BFI is set to enter its next phase consolidating domestic structures, broadening grassroots programs, and aiming for medal-winning performances at upcoming global events.
