India’s sharpshooter Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar has etched his name in the record books once again. At the Asian Shooting Championships 2026, the 25-year-old from Madhya Pradesh produced a flawless performance in the Men’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions event, shooting a breathtaking final score of 362.0 to set a new World Record, while also successfully defending his Asian title.
Who is Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar?
Born on 3 February 2001 in Ratanpur village, Khargone district, Madhya Pradesh, Aishwary comes from a farming family. He first got familiar with shooting by accompanying his father on hunting trips and later learned the discipline of sport shooting from his cousin, Navdeep Singh Rathore. He began formal training in 2015 at the Madhya Pradesh Shooting Academy in Bhopal.
His rise through the ranks has been nothing short of remarkable. At the 2019 ISSF Junior World Cup in Suhl, Tomar set the junior world record in the 50m Rifle 3 Positions event and won the gold medal. That was the world’s first glimpse of a shooter who would go on to become one of India’s most dependable performers on the global stage. He has since represented India at both the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the 2024 Paris Olympics.
A Dominator at Asian Championships
The Asian Shooting Championships have practically become Aishwary’s home turf. He claimed gold at the 2023 Asian Championship and again at the 2025 edition in Shymkent, Kazakhstan – his second Asian title in the event. His third consecutive medal at the Asian Championships (Gold in 2023, Silver in 2024, and Gold in 2025) signals consistent excellence rare in any sport. The 2026 World Record-breaking performance now adds a whole new dimension to that legacy.

What is 50m Rifle 3 Positions?
For those new to shooting sports, the 50m Rifle 3 Positions event is one of the most technically demanding disciplines in the sport. Competitors must shoot from three different positions. Kneeling, Prone (lying down), and Standing. At a target placed 50 metres away. Each position demands different muscle control, breathing techniques, and mental steadiness. Aishwary is particularly known for his exceptional kneeling and prone rounds, even scoring a perfect 200/200 in both positions during qualification at the 2025 ISSF World Championships in Cairo.
World-Class Consistency
What sets Aishwary apart is that this world record at the Asian Championships 2026 is not a one-off miracle. At the 2025 National Shooting Championships in Bhopal, he fired an incredible 470.5 – bettering the previous world record by 1.6 points, though it couldn’t be officially ratified as it was outside an ISSF-accredited competition. At the 2025 ISSF World Championships in Cairo, he equaled the qualification world record with a score of 597-40x.
The Road Ahead
Officials have praised Tomar’s mental strength and composure under pressure, noting that his focus on mental conditioning, including meditation and visualization, contributes significantly to his consistent top-level performances. With the Milan 2026 Winter Olympics on the horizon and a world record now officially to his name, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar is no longer just India’s best rifle shooter, he is among the very finest in the world.
From a small village in Madhya Pradesh to the summit of world shooting, his story is a reminder that excellence is born not just in talent, but in years of quiet, disciplined work.
