Sachin Baisoya’s long-awaited breakthrough on the IGPL Tour finally arrived in emphatic fashion as the Indian golfer clinched the IGPL Invitational 2026 Mauritius title, overturning a two-shot deficit with a commanding final-round performance.

Competing at the picturesque Anahita Golf Course in Port Louis, Baisoya produced a clinical 5-under 67 to finish at 11-under overall, sealing a three-shot victory over teenage contender Veer Ganapathy.

For Baisoya, this win represents more than just a title it marks the culmination of consistent performances over the past year. Widely regarded as one of the most reliable players on the Indian domestic circuit, the 30-year-old had frequently contended on the IGPL Tour without converting those opportunities into victories. In Mauritius, however, he delivered when it mattered most.

Starting the final round two shots behind overnight leader Veer Ganapathy, Baisoya wasted no time in applying pressure. Early birdies on the first and third holes immediately brought him into contention, especially as Ganapathy stumbled with an opening bogey. The early momentum shift allowed Baisoya to briefly take control before the young leader responded.

Ganapathy, just 18 years old, showed composure beyond his years, bouncing back with consecutive birdies on the fifth and sixth holes to reclaim the lead. Despite a dropped shot on the eighth, he managed to maintain a narrow advantage heading into the back nine, setting up a tightly contested finish.

The decisive phase of the tournament unfolded between the 12th and 16th holes—a stretch that ultimately defined the outcome. Baisoya elevated his game significantly, producing four birdies in five holes, including three consecutive gains from the 12th to the 14th. His ability to capitalise on scoring opportunities under pressure highlighted both his experience and tactical awareness.

By the time he added another birdie on the 16th, Baisoya had surged to 11-under, opening up a gap that Ganapathy struggled to close. While the teenager managed four birdies during his round, inconsistency proved costly, as he also dropped shots at crucial moments to finish at 8-under.

For Ganapathy, this marked his third runner-up finish, further underlining his growing reputation as one of India’s most promising young golfers. Though the title eluded him once again, his ability to contend consistently at such a young age suggests that a breakthrough victory may not be far away.

Behind the leading pair, the competition for the remaining podium spots was equally competitive. Last season’s Order of Merit winner Pukhraj Singh Gill produced one of the standout rounds of the day, carding a 5-under 67 to climb into a tie for third at 5-under overall. He was joined by Olympian Udayan Mane (68) and multiple IGPL winner Aman Raj (69), both of whom delivered steady performances across the final round.

Milind Soni and Shaurya Binu shared sixth place at 4-under, while a trio comprising Aryan Roopa Anand, Yashas Chandra, and Raghav Chugh finished tied for eighth at 3-under.

One of the notable stories of the tournament came from local golfer Pierre Pellegrin, who demonstrated remarkable resilience. After opening with an 8-over 80, he responded with an extraordinary 8-under 64 in the second round—a 16-shot improvement—before finishing with a 2-under 70 to secure a tie for 11th. His performance highlighted both the challenging nature of the course and the potential for recovery with strong execution.

The same group also included India’s top woman finisher Ridhima Dilawari, along with experienced campaigners such as Gaganjeet Bhullar and Shiv Kapur. Bhullar, an 11-time Asian Tour winner, found rhythm late in the tournament with a 5-under 67, while Kapur posted a steady 69.

The tournament itself, hosted by Indian tennis legend Leander Paes, received widespread praise from players and stakeholders alike. The Anahita Golf Course, known for its demanding layout and scenic coastal backdrop, tested all aspects of a golfer’s game from shot-making precision to course management.

Baisoya’s victory was particularly significant given his consistent performances since the inception of the IGPL Tour. Having recorded multiple top-three finishes last season and finishing fourth in the year-end rankings, he had established himself as a regular contender. This win not only validates his persistence but also positions him as a key player to watch moving forward.

Reflecting on his achievement, Baisoya acknowledged the added significance of winning overseas, particularly on a challenging course. His ability to handle pressure, especially during the critical back-nine stretch, demonstrated the maturity required to close out tournaments at this level.

As the IGPL Tour continues to grow, performances like Baisoya’s serve as a benchmark for consistency and execution. For now, the Mauritius title stands as a defining moment in his career a breakthrough that could signal the start of a more dominant phase on the professional circuit.
