Team India delivered one of their most commanding performances of the Billie Jean King Cup Asia/Oceania Group I campaign, dismantling Mongolia 3-0 while conceding just a single game across all three matches at the DLTA Complex in New Delhi.
The emphatic victory not only restored momentum after a mixed run but also set up a crucial final tie against Korea Republic.
Having registered two wins and two losses so far, India remain in contention heading into the final round-robin fixture. With only the top two teams progressing, the clash against Korea Republic now assumes decisive importance in determining their qualification hopes.
Clinical from the outset
India made a tactical change heading into the tie, bringing in Zeel Desai for the opening singles rubber in place of Vaishnavi Adkar. The move paid immediate dividends as Desai produced a near-flawless performance, overwhelming Mongolia’s Anu-Vjin Gantor in straight sets.
Desai needed just 37 minutes to seal a 6-0, 6-0 victory, controlling rallies from the baseline and dictating tempo with precision. Her ability to maintain depth and consistency left Gantor with little room to counter, as the Indian raced through the match without conceding a game.
The tone had been set early, and India showed no signs of relenting.

Sahaja Yamalapalli followed with an equally dominant display in the second singles rubber, mirroring Desai’s scoreline with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Jargal Altansarnai. Yamalapalli was in complete control throughout the contest, using her aggressive baseline play to push her opponent onto the defensive from the outset.
Her court coverage and shot selection stood out, as she consistently forced errors while capitalising on short balls. Mongolia struggled to find any rhythm, and the Indian wrapped up the contest efficiently to seal the tie for the hosts.
At that point, India had already secured an unassailable 2-0 lead, but the intensity did not drop.

In the doubles rubber, Vaishnavi Adkar returned to the court alongside Rutuja Bhosale, and the Indian pair ensured the sweep was completed in style. Facing Khongorzul Aldarkhishig and Jargal Altansarnai, the Indian duo combined effectively to register a 6-1, 6-0 win.
The match showcased strong coordination and clarity in roles, with Bhosale controlling the net while Adkar anchored from the baseline. Their ability to break early in both sets ensured that Mongolia never settled into the contest. Across the three matches, India dropped just one game a statistic that underlined the gulf in execution and consistency between the two sides on the day.
This dominant performance comes at a critical juncture in India’s campaign. After a mixed set of results earlier in the week, the team needed a convincing win not just for points, but also to rebuild confidence and rhythm.
The victory also highlighted the depth within the Indian squad, with different players stepping up in varying roles. Desai’s inclusion paid off immediately, while Yamalapalli continued her strong run in singles. The doubles pairing of Adkar and Bhosale also showed cohesion, offering India a reliable combination in the format.
However, the challenge ahead is significantly tougher.
Korea Republic vs Indonesia: battle of the top two
While India dominated their tie, attention also turned to the marquee clash between Korea Republic and Indonesia two of the strongest teams in the group.
Korea drew first blood in the tie, with Dayeon Back continuing her impressive run in the tournament. She edged Indonesia’s Priska Madelyn Nugroho in a hard-fought three-set contest, winning 7-5, 3-6, 6-2.
The match reflected the quality and competitiveness at the top of the standings, with both teams entering the tie unbeaten. With the head-to-head record evenly poised at 5-5 prior to the contest, every rubber carried significant weight in shaping the final standings.
The outcome of this tie could have direct implications on India’s qualification scenario, depending on results in the final round.
Elsewhere, Thailand looked set to bounce back strongly in their tie against New Zealand. Anchisa Chanta gave her team the early lead with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Aishi Das, showcasing control and composure in key moments. In the second singles, Patcharin Cheapchandej was locked in a competitive battle against Valentina Ivanov but held the advantage, leading 6-2, 3-6, 4-0 at the time of reporting.
Thailand’s resurgence adds another layer of complexity to the group standings, where multiple teams remain in contention heading into the final day.
All to play for in final round
With the round-robin stage nearing its conclusion, the qualification picture remains finely balanced. India’s comprehensive win over Mongolia has kept them in the race, but their fate will likely hinge on the outcome of their final tie against Korea Republic.
The format leaves little margin for error only the top two teams advance making every match crucial. For India, the challenge will be to replicate the consistency and composure shown against Mongolia against a far stronger opponent.
As the competition enters its decisive phase, the Indian team will take confidence from this dominant display, knowing that their campaign remains alive. The final hurdle, however, promises to be their toughest yet.
