A stoppage-time equaliser from substitute Sarthak Goloui ensured that Jamshedpur FC shared the spoils with Mumbai City FC in a gripping top-of-the-table clash in the Indian Super League 2025–26 at the JRD Tata Sports Complex on Thursday.
Goloui’s dramatic header in the 90th minute cancelled out Brandon Fernandes’ first-half goal, as the contest finished 1-1 in front of an electric crowd at the Furnace.
The result keeps Mumbai City FC at the summit of the table with 18 points, while Jamshedpur FC sit close behind in second place with 15 points after a contest that underlined the competitive intensity at the top of the standings. Brandon Fernandes, whose goal opened the scoring, was named Player of the Match for his composed performance in midfield.
The match started at a brisk pace, with both teams eager to impose themselves early. Mumbai City created the first opening in the fourth minute through Vikram Partap Singh, who tested the Jamshedpur defence with a direct run. The home side responded with attacking intent of their own, with Mohammed Sanan, Raphael Messi Bouli, and Ritwik Kumar Das combining well to push the Islanders back.
As the first half unfolded, Mumbai began to gain control in advanced areas. Hmingthanmawia Ralte saw a deflected shot drift wide, while Lalnuntluanga Bawitlung forced a strong save from goalkeeper Albino Gomes. Mumbai also looked threatening from set-pieces, with Akash Mishra and captain Lallianzuala Chhangte both coming close with headers.
Despite the pressure, Jamshedpur remained a threat on the counter. Bouli nearly found the net with a well-directed header, while Nikola Stojanović and Lalhriatpuia Chawngthu combined effectively without finding the decisive finish. Bouli produced one of the standout moments of the first half in the 31st minute, chesting down a long ball before unleashing a fierce strike that was pushed away by Phurba Lachenpa in the Mumbai goal.

However, it was Mumbai City who broke the deadlock in first-half stoppage time with a sharp attacking move. Joni Kauko initiated the play down the left, finding Noufal PN, who squared the ball into the box for Brandon Fernandes. The midfielder turned smartly before striking towards goal, with the shot taking a heavy deflection off Jamshedpur captain Stephen Eze, wrong-footing Gomes and rolling into the far corner to give the visitors a 1-0 lead at the break.
Jamshedpur emerged after the interval with renewed purpose. They thought they had equalised early in the second half when Bouli found the back of the net, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside. The hosts continued to apply pressure, with Sanan and Ritwik linking up well to create chances. Stojanović came close but fired just over the bar.
The Men of Steel began to dominate possession, pushing Mumbai City deeper into their own half. Eze nearly capitalised when Lachenpa strayed off his line, and Vincy Barretto saw his effort blocked by Nuno Reis in a crucial defensive intervention.
Mumbai City, meanwhile, sought opportunities on the break. In the 72nd minute, Noufal PN produced a dangerous run before laying the ball off to Chhangte, but the captain’s effort drifted wide of the target.

As the clock ticked towards full-time, Jamshedpur intensified their pursuit of an equaliser. Lachenpa produced a key save from a long throw, but the pressure finally paid off in the 90th minute. A corner from Stojanović was delivered towards the far post, where Sarthak Goloui rose highest to meet the ball. His header struck the underside of the crossbar and bounced over the line, sparking wild celebrations among the home fans as Jamshedpur levelled at 1-1.
Despite a late push from the hosts in stoppage time, Mumbai City held firm to secure a point in a compelling contest between two title contenders.
The draw keeps the race at the top tightly contested, with both teams showing why they are considered serious challengers this season.
