India endured a tough outing in their third tie of the Billie Jean King Cup Asia/Oceania Group I at the DLTA Complex on Thursday, going down 0–2 to Indonesia after losing both singles rubbers.
With the victory, Indonesia kept themselves firmly in contention for a top finish in the group, while Korea Republic maintained their flawless run and Thailand bounced back strongly with a dominant win over Mongolia.
The day began with a hard-fought opening singles clash featuring Vaishnavi Adkar and Indonesia’s Priska Madelyn Nugroho. Adkar, who has impressed in recent matches with her tenacity and baseline control, found herself in a tightly contested battle. The first set was closely fought, with neither player willing to concede ground. Nugroho eventually edged it 7-6(3) in a tiebreak, capitalising on key moments under pressure.
Unwilling to let the match slip away, Adkar responded strongly in the second set. She fought back with determination, matching her opponent’s intensity point for point. The set again went to a tiebreak, where Adkar held her nerve to level the match with a 7-6(3) win. However, Nugroho regrouped effectively in the deciding set, tightening her game and minimising errors. She eventually closed out the match 6-3 in the third set, giving Indonesia a 1-0 lead in the tie.
In the second singles rubber, Sahaja Yamalapalli faced a formidable opponent in Janice Tjen. The Indonesian, ranked significantly higher, delivered a commanding performance, taking control early in the match. Yamalapalli struggled to break Tjen’s rhythm, as the Indonesian’s powerful baseline game and consistent execution proved decisive. Tjen secured a comprehensive 6-2, 6-1 victory to seal the tie for Indonesia.
With the result already decided, the doubles match featuring Rutuja Bhosale and Ankita Raina against Aldila Sutjiadi and Janice Tjen was ongoing at the time of reporting.
