Rajasthan United FC snatched a dramatic 1-0 victory over Gokulam Kerala FC in a fiercely contested Star Cement Indian Football League (IFL) 2025–26 clash at the Vidhyadhar Nagar Stadium in Jaipur on Tuesday, with Naoba Meitei’s stoppage-time winner proving decisive in a match that seemed destined to end in a stalemate.
After more than 100 minutes of intense, end-to-end football without a goal, Meitei’s moment of brilliance in the 90+11th minute secured all three points for the hosts. The result propelled Rajasthan United to second place in the standings with 14 points, while Gokulam Kerala remained seventh with eight points. Meitei was rightly adjudged the Man of the Match for his decisive contribution.
Cagey start with Gokulam controlling early tempo
The visitors began the contest on the front foot, enjoying greater possession in the opening exchanges. Gokulam Kerala looked composed in midfield and attempted to dictate the tempo, with Thabiso Nelson Brown testing Rajasthan goalkeeper Bhabindra Malla Thakuri early on.
Despite their control, Gokulam struggled to create clear-cut chances. Their build-up play lacked penetration in the final third, allowing Rajasthan to gradually settle into the game.
As the half progressed, Rajasthan United began to grow in confidence. Their attacking transitions became sharper, with Amadou Soukouna playing a central role in linking play and creating opportunities.
Rajasthan threaten before the break
The hosts came close to breaking the deadlock midway through the first half when Soukouna set up Jonathan Fernandes, but the forward failed to hit the target. Moments later, Soukouna himself tested goalkeeper Shibinraj Kunniyil with a curling effort, signalling Rajasthan’s increasing attacking intent.

The most intense phase of the match came in first-half stoppage time, when Rajasthan launched a sustained attacking spell. Soukouna struck the crossbar, Thomyo L. Shimray’s header was saved, and Fernandes’ acrobatic attempt was denied by an alert Shibinraj.
Despite this flurry of chances, the score remained goalless at the interval, reflecting both Rajasthan’s attacking promise and Gokulam’s defensive resilience.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with both teams creating opportunities but lacking the finishing touch.
Gokulam nearly broke the deadlock early after the restart, but Brown failed to connect cleanly with a dangerous delivery inside the box. Rajasthan responded through Shimray, who continued to trouble the defence with his movement and aerial presence.
As the match progressed, the physical intensity increased. Both sides pushed for a breakthrough, but defensive discipline on either end ensured that clear chances remained limited.
Gokulam substitute Benjamin Thomas Kuku came close in the 73rd minute, forcing a crucial save from Malla. At the other end, Rajasthan looked threatening through Isaac Nortey and substitute Naoba Meitei, who added pace and directness to the attack.
Late drama defines the contest
With the clock ticking into stoppage time, the match appeared set to end in a draw—a result that would have reflected the evenly matched nature of the contest.
However, Rajasthan United found the breakthrough deep into added time.
In the 101st minute, Naoba Meitei picked up the ball on the left flank, cut inside with intent, and unleashed a right-footed strike towards the near post. The shot caught goalkeeper Shibinraj off guard, sneaking past him to find the back of the net.
The goal sparked celebrations among the home crowd and players alike, as Rajasthan finally converted their persistence into a decisive moment.
Tactical discipline and patience pay off
Rajasthan United’s victory was built on patience and sustained pressure. While they were unable to convert earlier chances, they maintained their attacking structure and continued to probe Gokulam’s defence throughout the match. Head coach Vikrant Sharma’s decision to introduce fresh legs, including Meitei, proved crucial in the latter stages. The substitutes added energy and urgency, ultimately tilting the balance in Rajasthan’s favour.
For Gokulam Kerala, the result will be a frustrating one. Despite a disciplined defensive performance and spells of control, their inability to capitalise on key moments proved costly.
Implications for the league standings
The win significantly boosts Rajasthan United’s position in the table, taking them to second place and firmly into the conversation for the top spots. With momentum on their side, they will look to build on this result in the coming fixtures. Gokulam Kerala, meanwhile, will need to regroup quickly. Their performance showed promise, particularly in terms of structure and possession, but the lack of cutting edge in the final third remains a concern.
In a contest defined by fine margins, it ultimately took a single moment of quality to separate the two sides.
Naoba Meitei’s stoppage-time strike not only secured three valuable points but also underlined the unpredictable nature of football where persistence, patience, and one decisive action can define the outcome. For Rajasthan United, it was a night of resilience rewarded. For Gokulam Kerala, it was a reminder of how quickly control can slip away.
And for those watching, it was a match that delivered drama until the very last second.
