In a significant step towards strengthening grassroots football in the country, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) has announced a multi-year partnership with the Dream Sports Foundation (DSF), naming it the official Youth Development Partner for U16 football in India.
The collaboration aims to bring greater structure, visibility, and quality to youth competitions, aligning India’s football development ecosystem with long-term strategic goals.
At its core, the partnership integrates AIFF’s established national competition framework with DSF’s expertise in grassroots development. The result is a more cohesive and scalable pathway for young footballers, ensuring that talent identification and nurturing are no longer fragmented but systematically aligned across levels.
From competition to development pathway
The AIFF Junior League has long served as a key platform for youth football in India, particularly at the U16 level. Under the new partnership, the league’s regional rounds will continue to function as the qualification route to the national stage. However, what changes significantly is the depth of engagement once teams reach the latter stages.
The national finals of the AIFF U16 Junior League will now be integrated with the Dream Sports Championship (DSC), effectively merging competition with structured development. This evolution transforms the DSC from a standalone tournament into a critical component of India’s official youth football pipeline.
For Indian football, this marks a shift from isolated tournaments to an ecosystem-driven approach where competition, coaching, analytics, and exposure are interconnected.

A key pillar of the partnership lies in the value-added interventions that DSF will introduce at the national stage. These include performance analysis tools, educational workshops, and structured upskilling programs for players, coaches, and support staff.
Such interventions address long-standing gaps in Indian football’s development structure particularly in areas like data-driven performance tracking, tactical education, and holistic athlete development.
Additionally, live streaming of matches on FanCode will significantly increase visibility for young players. This not only enhances scouting opportunities but also provides players with a platform to showcase their abilities to a wider audience, including clubs, academies, and national selectors.
Neel Shah, CEO of Dream Sports Foundation, emphasised the broader vision behind the collaboration. “We are excited to partner with AIFF to elevate the opportunities available to India’s next generation of footballers. The Dream Sports Championship has shown what is possible when young players get access to quality competition and the right ecosystem. This partnership allows us to scale that impact.”

The Dream Sports Championship has already demonstrated tangible outcomes over the past two editions. Its alumni include 14 players who have gone on to represent India at youth international levels. Notably, nine players from the platform were part of the India U19 team that won the SAFF Championship in 2025.
Further underlining its impact, five DSC players were selected for the India U20 squad in 2025, while three have already made their Indian Super League (ISL) debuts. These numbers highlight the competition’s effectiveness as a talent identification and development platform.
By integrating DSC into the AIFF’s official structure, the partnership ensures that such success stories are not isolated but become part of a sustained pipeline.
The timing of this partnership is particularly relevant. Indian youth football is currently in a growth phase, with increased participation from academies, improved scouting networks, and recent international qualifications boosting confidence within the system.
India’s qualification for the AFC U17 Asian Cup is a reflection of this progress, but sustaining and building on such achievements requires systemic support. The AIFF-DSF collaboration aims to provide exactly that—continuity in development, exposure to high-quality competition, and a clear pathway to higher levels.
M. Satyanarayan, Deputy Secretary General of AIFF, acknowledged the importance of such collaborations. “With youth football in India in a vibrant phase, this support from Dream Sports Foundation will provide the right impetus for us to move further. Combined efforts like these will help our players dream bigger.”
One of the enduring challenges in Indian football has been the gap between grassroots competitions and professional opportunities. Talented players often struggle to transition due to a lack of structured exposure and development mechanisms.
This partnership attempts to bridge that gap. By aligning grassroots competitions with national-level frameworks and integrating development-focused interventions, it creates a more seamless progression for players from academy football to national teams and eventually professional leagues.
Moreover, the involvement of a sports technology-driven organisation like Dream Sports brings in a modern approach to development leveraging analytics, digital platforms, and scalable infrastructure.
A step towards long-term sustainability
While immediate outcomes such as improved competition quality and player exposure are expected, the real significance of this partnership lies in its long-term potential. Building a robust youth development system is fundamental to improving India’s performance at senior levels.
The AIFF-DSF collaboration represents a move towards sustainability where talent is not only identified but consistently nurtured, monitored, and prepared for the demands of international football.
As Indian football continues its gradual evolution, initiatives like this will play a critical role in shaping the next generation of players. By combining structure with innovation, and competition with development, the partnership lays the foundation for a more organised and effective youth football ecosystem in the country.
