As Hockey India prepares to host the 8th Annual Awards 2025 in New Delhi on March 27, two of the country’s most consistent performers Hardik Singh and Navneet Kaur find themselves at the centre of recognition.
Both players have been nominated for the prestigious Hockey India Balbir Singh Sr. Award for Player of the Year, underlining their impact on Indian hockey across the past season.
In addition to the top honour, Hardik has also been shortlisted for the Hockey India Ajit Pal Singh Award for Midfielder of the Year, while Navneet is in contention for the Hockey India Dhanraj Pillay Award for Forward of the Year. These nominations reflect not just isolated performances, but sustained excellence across major international competitions in 2025.
Hardik Singh: The Engine in Midfield
Hardik Singh’s influence in India’s midfield has grown significantly over the past few years, and 2025 marked a phase where he consistently delivered in high-stakes tournaments. His standout contribution came during India’s gold medal-winning campaign at the Hero Asia Cup in Rajgir, Bihar, where he played a pivotal role in controlling tempo and linking defence with attack.
Reflecting on his nomination, Hardik emphasised the value of recognition in a demanding sport. “It feels really good to be nominated. Whenever an athlete gets recognised like this, it shows that the hard work you put in every day is being acknowledged,” he said.
The Asia Cup triumph remains a defining moment for him. “It was a very important tournament for us because our momentum wasn’t great before that. We came together as a team and delivered. Personally, I felt I played well, so that stands out,” he added.

What separates Hardik is his consistency in execution—whether it is ball recovery, distribution under pressure, or maintaining structural discipline. His role may not always translate into headline statistics, but within the team framework, he is central to India’s tactical balance.
Looking ahead, Hardik’s focus is firmly on upcoming global events. “I’m extremely motivated for the FIH Hockey World Cup and the Asian Games. Opportunities like playing multiple World Cups don’t come often, and if I get that chance, I’ll give everything,” he noted.
Navneet Kaur: Consistency in Attack
On the women’s side, Navneet Kaur’s nomination is a reflection of both output and longevity. A key figure in India’s forward line, she delivered a strong season in 2025, highlighted by her performances at the Women’s Asia Cup in Gongshu, where India secured a silver medal.
Navneet scored six goals during the campaign and also reached a significant personal milestone—200 international caps. Her ability to contribute consistently in major tournaments has made her one of India’s most reliable attacking players.
“I’m really happy to be nominated for these awards. It motivates players and gives us confidence to keep improving,” Navneet said. She also acknowledged the support system behind her success, adding, “My family and teammates have always backed me, and that means a lot.”
Her performances extended beyond the Asia Cup. At the FIH Hockey World Cup 2026 Qualifiers in Hyderabad, Navneet played a crucial role in India’s silver medal finish, scoring four goals and earning the Player of the Tournament award. Her positioning, movement inside the circle, and finishing under pressure were key assets throughout the campaign.
Navneet attributed her consistency to sustained effort rather than any single factor. “There is no secret—it’s just continuous hard work. I’ve focused on improving different aspects of my game over the years, whether it’s penalty corners or playing more freely. Experience also plays a big role,” she explained.
This progression is evident in her decision-making in the final third, where she has become more efficient in converting chances and creating opportunities for teammates.
Recognition and Responsibility
The Hockey India Annual Awards serve as more than just a recognition platform they reinforce the standards expected at the highest level. For players like Hardik and Navneet, these nominations also bring added responsibility as senior members of their respective teams.
Both players have been part of India’s evolving hockey structure, where increased exposure, improved infrastructure, and consistent international competition have elevated performance levels. Their nominations are not just individual achievements but also indicators of the team’s overall progress.
Looking Ahead to Major Events
With the FIH Hockey World Cup and Asian Games on the horizon, both players remain focused on collective goals. The transition from recognition to performance is critical, especially in tournaments where margins are minimal and execution becomes decisive.
For Hardik, it is about maintaining midfield control against top opposition. For Navneet, it is about continuing her scoring form and leading the attack with composure.
