India delivered a commanding all-round performance on Day 2 of the Archery Asia Cup Stage 1, with strong results across compound and recurve disciplines reinforcing the country’s growing depth in the sport.

From dominant qualification rankings to consistent progress in elimination rounds, Indian archers were firmly among the standout performers of the day.

Compound men lead the charge

The highlight of the day came from the compound men’s category, where all four Indian archers Rajat, Rishabh, Uday, and Prathamesh Jawkar progressed to the Round of 16. Notably, the quartet had already established their dominance in the qualification round, finishing as the top four archers.

This clean sweep underlined both consistency and competitive maturity, as Indian compound archers combined precision with composure under pressure. Their performances also ensured a strong pathway heading into the knockout rounds, where maintaining rhythm becomes crucial.

India’s strength in this category was further reflected in the team event. The compound men’s team, comprising Rajat, Rishabh, and Uday, secured the top seed after qualifications. This positioning gives them a significant strategic advantage, including a relatively favourable draw in the early elimination rounds.

Mixed team combinations shine

India also excelled in the compound mixed team (CX) category, with the pairing of Rajat and Chikitha emerging as the top-seeded team after qualifications. Their performance highlighted strong synergy and consistency key factors in mixed team events where coordination and timing are critical.

The top seeding places the Indian pair in a strong position to contend for a podium finish, especially given their ability to deliver high scores consistently across ends.

In the recurve women’s section, India continued to demonstrate encouraging depth, with three out of four archers advancing to the Round of 16. Ruma, Kirti, and Ridhi successfully navigated their early rounds, while Anshika narrowly missed out after exiting in the Round of 32.

While not a complete sweep like the compound men, the progression of three archers into the latter stages reflects a solid showing and provides multiple medal opportunities for India in the recurve category.

The recurve women’s team, comprising Ruma, Kirti, and Ridhi, secured the third seed after qualifications. Although not at the very top of the standings, this position keeps them firmly in contention, particularly given their experience and ability to perform in high-pressure elimination matches.

Recurve mixed team tops qualifications

Another standout result came in the recurve mixed team (RX) event, where the Indian duo of Devaang and Ruma clinched the top seed after qualifications. Their performance combined technical precision with consistency, placing them ahead of strong international competition.

Top seeding in mixed recurve is particularly valuable, as the format is highly competitive and often decided by narrow margins. The Indian pair’s ability to maintain high scoring averages positions them as serious contenders for the title.

Across categories, India’s performances on Day 2 were marked by a clear pattern—strong qualification rounds followed by controlled execution in elimination matches. This consistency across disciplines suggests a well-prepared contingent capable of sustaining performance levels throughout the tournament.

The compound discipline, in particular, continues to be a major strength for India, with both individual and team results reinforcing their status as one of the leading nations in this format. Meanwhile, the recurve results indicate steady progress, with a mix of experienced and emerging archers stepping up.

As the competition moves deeper into the knockout stages, the focus will shift to handling pressure and converting strong starts into podium finishes. With multiple archers and teams still in contention across categories, India is well-positioned to mount a serious medal challenge.

However, elimination rounds bring a different level of intensity, where even minor lapses can prove costly. Maintaining composure, especially in closely contested matches, will be key.

Day 2 of the Archery Asia Cup Stage 1 showcased India’s growing strength and depth in international archery. With top seeds in multiple categories and strong representation in the knockout rounds, the Indian contingent has laid a solid foundation.

If current form continues, India could be looking at a highly successful campaign, with both compound and recurve archers poised to deliver strong results in the days ahead.
