Unbeaten Mumbai City FC will aim to continue their strong start to the Indian Super League, ISL 2025-26 season when they host Sporting Club Delhi at the Mumbai Football Arena on Sunday.
The Islanders currently sit fourth in the standings with seven points and will be eager to return to winning ways after a hard-fought 1-1 draw against NorthEast United FC in their previous match. Kick-off is scheduled for 19:30 IST, with the match being broadcast on Sony Sports Ten 2 and streamed live on FanCode.
While Mumbai City aim to strengthen their position near the top of the table, Sporting Club Delhi travel to Mumbai still searching for their first points of the campaign.
Mumbai City Target Consistency
Mumbai City have made a steady start to the season and remain unbeaten after their opening matches. However, head coach Petr Krátký believes his side must maintain consistency if they are to remain among the title contenders. The Islanders were forced to settle for a draw in their last outing, but the performance demonstrated their ability to compete in tight contests.
Krátký emphasised the importance of sticking to the team’s playing philosophy while chasing all three points against Sporting Club Delhi.
“We always want to win matches, but we must do it our way by respecting our pattern of play and exposing the opposition,” Krátký said ahead of the match. “The team is progressing really well and we hope to maintain the momentum. SC Delhi are a team with a lot of energy, so we must stay focused, disciplined, and concentrate on transitions.”
Mumbai City’s style under Krátký has relied heavily on controlling possession, pressing high and creating opportunities in the final third. Their attacking combinations have been particularly effective at home, where the team traditionally performs strongly.
Defensive Focus for the Islanders
While Mumbai City have shown attacking quality this season, defender Sahil Panwar highlighted the importance of defensive organisation heading into the clash.
“It is not about me performing individually,” Panwar said. “It is about us as a group and how we perform collectively as a team. We are focused on maintaining clean sheets.”
Maintaining defensive discipline could prove vital against a Sporting Club Delhi side that may look to exploit counterattacking opportunities.

For Sporting Club Delhi, the upcoming match represents a major test.
The Delhi-based club, a newly rebranded franchise in the league, currently sit at the bottom of the table without a point after three matches. Despite their struggles in results, the team has shown glimpses of defensive resilience. Their previous outing saw them narrowly lose 0-1 to FC Goa in an away fixture where they defended resolutely for large periods of the match.
Head coach Tomasz Tchórz acknowledged the challenge his team faces but believes the experience will help the squad develop.
“It’s a huge game away in Mumbai against the former champions,” Tchórz said. “They are a fantastic club with a proud history and a strong squad. We will do everything to compete in the game. We must be at our very best to try to secure a positive result.”
He also emphasised that the team is still in the early stages of building chemistry.
“We are a new team and building chemistry takes time. We are playing several away games in a row, but the players are working very hard in training and giving everything on the pitch. We hope the work we are putting in will translate into results.”

Defender Lamgoulen, who has taken on leadership responsibilities within the squad, spoke about the team’s determination to improve.
“When the club shows this much trust in you, you feel a bigger responsibility to give everything back to the team,” Lamgoulen said. “As captain, the responsibility is much bigger. I want to help the team, support my teammates and give my best every day.”
Delhi’s defensive structure could be key in the upcoming fixture, particularly if they aim to frustrate Mumbai City and exploit moments during transitions.
The historical head-to-head record between the two sides adds an interesting dimension to the matchup. Across 22 meetings involving the previous identities of the Delhi franchise including Hyderabad FC and FC Pune City Sporting Club Delhi hold a slight edge.
Delhi have registered eight wins compared to Mumbai City’s seven victories, while seven matches have ended in draws. Despite trailing in overall wins, Mumbai City have scored more goals in these encounters, holding a narrow 27–24 advantage in the goal tally.
Their most recent meeting in February 2025 ended in a tightly contested draw, suggesting another competitive contest could be on the cards.
Sunday’s match is expected to produce an intriguing tactical battle. Mumbai City are likely to dominate possession and attempt to dictate the tempo of the game in front of their home supporters. Their attacking players will aim to break through Delhi’s defensive lines and create scoring opportunities.
Sporting Club Delhi, meanwhile, may adopt a compact defensive setup and rely on counterattacks to threaten the Islanders. With three crucial points at stake, both teams will approach the match with different objectives Mumbai City looking to maintain their unbeaten run and climb the table, while Delhi aim to finally open their account in the league.
As the season begins to take shape, the outcome of this fixture could play an important role in shaping the early momentum for both sides.
