Indian teenage tennis prospect Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi continues to gather valuable exposure on the professional circuit as she competes at the KPB Trust ITF Women’s Open W100 Bengaluru 2026, balancing early setbacks in singles with a promising run in the doubles draw.

The 16-year-old from Coimbatore bowed out in the opening round of the singles main draw after a hard-fought three-set defeat to fifth seed Polina Iatcenko. However, she bounced back in the doubles competition alongside compatriot and close friend Shrivalli Rashmikaa Bhamidipaty, with the Indian duo advancing to the quarterfinals after overcoming another all-Indian pairing.

The Bengaluru W100 marks yet another step in Maaya’s transition from junior dominance to the professional ranks, as she continues to build match experience against seasoned opponents. Having already featured in recent tournaments in Mumbai and Pune, the youngster has steadily increased her presence on the international circuit while training at the Rafa Nadal Academy in Spain.

Maaya’s journey into competitive tennis began at a young age in Coimbatore, encouraged by her parents to explore sport as part of her early development. With access to structured coaching facilities close to home, tennis soon became more than just an extracurricular pursuit.

“I started taking tennis more seriously when I was 10 years old. Winning the Under-12 Nationals in 2022 was an eye-opener. It made me feel that maybe I could do something with the sport because I was enjoying it and felt happy on court,” Maaya recalled.

Her transition into the ITF junior circuit brought immediate success, highlighted by a 25-match winning streak that included four consecutive tournament victories and appearances in major quarterfinals and semifinals. A breakthrough title at the J300 event in New Delhi further strengthened her credentials and brought her closer to her long-term objective of competing at the Grand Slam level.

Despite her early exit in singles at the ongoing W100 Bengaluru, Maaya remains optimistic about the progress she has made in recent months.

“I feel it’s been a good period of positive growth. Right now, the focus is on amassing experience, competing against better players, and growing physically and mentally. Rankings and results will follow,” she said, reflecting on her recent outings in India.

The venue also holds personal significance for the teenager, who traces some of her earliest competitive memories to Bengaluru.

“My first-ever tennis tournament was in Bangalore, an Under-10 event. I lost in the first round, but I still had a lot of fun and stayed at the venue the entire day,” she said. “I’ve always liked playing here. In the Under-14s, I had one of my better results in Bangalore, and most of the times I’ve played on these courts, it’s been very good for me.”

With the European clay-court season approaching, Maaya is now set to return to the Rafa Nadal Academy, where she plans to focus on preparing for the upcoming junior Grand Slam events, including the French Open.

“The environment at the Rafa Nadal Academy is great because you are surrounded by athletes, and I study there as well. It’s turned into a second home for me. I will now look to play more on clay courts with the French Open coming up. The immediate aim is to do well in the junior Grand Slams,” she stated.

As Indian women’s tennis continues its search for the next generation of global contenders, Maaya’s measured rise through both the junior and professional pathways underscores the importance of structured development and international exposure at a formative stage.

Her performances in Bengaluru may be part of a learning curve, but they also represent a broader commitment to long-term progression as she sets her sights on success at the sport’s highest junior platforms.
