As the Indian Super League makes its long-awaited return to Jamshedpur after nearly a year, Jamshedpur FC have unveiled a 28-member squad for the upcoming campaign, signalling renewed ambition under returning head coach Owen Coyle.

With nine crucial home fixtures lined up at the JRD Tata Sports Complex, the Men of Steel will begin their ISL journey on February 15 against Mohammedan SC. The occasion carries added significance not just as an opening fixture, but as an opportunity to reset after an underwhelming Super Cup run and re-establish the “Furnace” as one of the most intimidating venues in the league.

Stability with Measured Reinforcements

The squad composition reflects continuity rather than overhaul. Much of the core group that featured in the Super Cup has been retained, suggesting belief in the existing structure. The only addition since that campaign is experienced goalkeeper Ravi Kumar, whose arrival strengthens competition within the goalkeeping department.

The squad includes six foreign players, blending international experience with a strong Indian base. This balance has been a hallmark of successful ISL teams in recent seasons, and Jamshedpur appear intent on following that blueprint.

Defensively, the club possesses a spine built around proven campaigners. Stephen Eze and Lazar Cirkovic bring physicality and aerial strength at the back, while Pratik Chaudhari adds domestic experience and leadership. Sarthak Golui and Mark Zothanpuia offer versatility across defensive positions, giving Coyle tactical flexibility.

With Albino Gomes and Ravi Kumar competing for the No. 1 shirt supported by Amrit Gope and Ayush Jena the goalkeeping unit has depth suited to a long and physically demanding season.

If there is one department that stands out on paper, it is midfield. Nikola Stojanovic and Madih Talal are expected to shoulder creative responsibility, while Pronay Halder’s work rate and defensive discipline provide balance. Rei Tachikawa’s composure in possession further strengthens central control.

Alongside them, Germanpreet Singh, Mobashir Rahman, Ritwik Das and Vincy Barretto offer energy and adaptability, while younger players such as Lalhriatpuia Chawngthu, Sreekuttan VS and Samir Murmu add squad depth and internal competition.

The midfield mix suggests Coyle wants a team capable of controlling tempo a feature often missing in Jamshedpur’s inconsistent phases last season.

Firepower Up Front

In attack, the presence of Messi Bouli provides physicality and finishing instinct. Rosenberg Gabriel and Manvir Singh offer mobility and width, while Sanan Mohammed K adds youthful unpredictability. Ritwik Das, though listed among midfielders, also brings attacking thrust and direct running from advanced positions.

The forward line may not be the most high-profile in the league, but it appears structured for collective output rather than individual reliance. Owen Coyle’s return adds narrative weight to the season. The Shield-winning coach, who previously guided the club to historic highs, has emphasised attitude and work ethic since taking charge again.

“We’re delighted with how hard the squad have been working since we came in,” Coyle said. “The players have shown great commitment and worked extremely hard in training. What we want now is to transmit that work from the training ground onto the field.”

His comments underline a key objective: translating preparation into consistent match-day execution.

The Importance of Home Advantage

With nine home games at the JRD Tata Sports Complex, Jamshedpur FC have a tangible opportunity to build momentum. Historically, the Furnace has played a decisive role in the club’s strong seasons, and restoring that home dominance could shape their league trajectory.

After a period of fluctuation, this squad represents continuity, balance and measured ambition rather than dramatic reconstruction. Whether that approach yields a genuine resurgence will depend on early-season results and the ability to convert structure into points.

For now, as the ISL returns to Jamshedpur, the Men of Steel have assembled a group capable of competing and perhaps, rediscovering their identity.
