The Bihar girls’ Under-15 team delivered one of the most dominant campaigns in the history of Indian age-group rugby, storming to the national title at the Sub Junior (U15) National Rugby Sevens Championship with a series of emphatic victories that underlined their complete superiority over the rest of the field.

From the opening match to the final, Bihar were in a league of their own. Across six matches, they dismantled every opponent with a blend of speed, physicality, discipline, and tactical clarity, leaving little doubt about the gap between them and the chasing pack. The results were not just wins; they were statements.

Bihar opened their group stage campaign with a crushing 67–0 win over Jharkhand, setting the tone for what would follow. The margin of victory reflected not just attacking flair but also defensive organisation, as Jharkhand were denied any territory or scoring opportunity. Bihar followed this up with another one-sided contest, routing Manipur 64–0. Against a state traditionally associated with sporting excellence, Bihar’s performance sent a clear message that they had arrived not just to compete, but to dominate.

The group stage performances ensured Bihar entered the knockouts brimming with confidence, but there was no drop in intensity. In the pre-quarterfinals, they faced Jharkhand once again and delivered an equally ruthless display, winning 56–0. The ability to reproduce such margins against the same opposition highlighted Bihar’s consistency and depth, with players rotating seamlessly without affecting the team’s overall rhythm.

The quarterfinal against Dadra and Nagar Haveli provided the first real test, at least on paper. DNH had impressed earlier in the tournament and arrived with momentum. Bihar, however, maintained their composure and clinical edge, securing a 43–7 victory. While this was the first time Bihar conceded points in the tournament, the response was immediate and emphatic, as they pulled away decisively to book a semifinal berth.

In the semifinals, Bihar faced Rajasthan, a side known for its structure and discipline at the junior level. Once again, Bihar rose to the occasion with a commanding 35–0 win. The clean sheet against a top-four opponent underlined the strength of their defensive systems and their ability to control high-pressure matches. Rajasthan were unable to break through Bihar’s defensive line, while Bihar capitalised on scoring opportunities with ruthless efficiency.

The final against Maharashtra carried added significance. Maharashtra entered the match as defending champions and one of the traditional powerhouses of Indian rugby. What unfolded, however, was a clear demonstration of Bihar’s rise and Maharashtra’s inability to match their pace and physicality on the day. Bihar secured a convincing 34–7 victory, avenging past setbacks and sealing the national title in emphatic fashion.

Across the six matches, Bihar’s scorelines read like a catalogue of dominance: 67–0, 64–0, 56–0, 43–7, 35–0, and 34–7. The margins tell the story of a team that was miles ahead in preparation, execution, and belief. Their attacking play was marked by quick ball movement, sharp support lines, and the ability to exploit space, while defensively they tackled with purpose and denied opponents any sustained momentum.

Equally impressive was the distribution of responsibility within the squad. Bihar did not rely on a single standout performer to carry them through the tournament. Instead, multiple players stepped up at different stages, reflecting a balanced team structure and strong coaching framework. This depth ensured that intensity levels remained high throughout the competition, even as the matches came thick and fast.

Beyond the numbers, Bihar’s triumph speaks to a broader story of growth in grassroots rugby within the state. Their success at the U15 level is not an isolated achievement but part of a wider pattern of consistent performances across age groups in recent years. The confidence, physical readiness, and tactical awareness displayed by these young players suggest a well-established development pathway that is beginning to yield sustained results.

The Sub Junior National Rugby Sevens Championship is often a proving ground for future national-level talent, and Bihar’s commanding run has firmly placed them at the forefront of India’s junior rugby landscape. For the rest of the country, their campaign serves as both a benchmark and a challenge.

At this year’s championship, the verdict was unequivocal. The girls from Bihar were not just better than their opponents they were miles ahead.
