East Bengal Women continued their imperious run at the SAFF Women’s Club Championship 2025, producing a dominant all-round performance to thrash Bangladesh’s Nasrin Sports Academy 7–0 at the Dashrath Rangasala Stadium in Kathmandu on Sunday.

With this emphatic victory, the Moshal Girls maintained their perfect record in the group stage, registering three wins from three matches and firmly establishing themselves as one of the standout teams of the tournament.

The night belonged to Ugandan striker Fazila Ikwaput, who delivered a devastating five-goal haul, underlining her importance to East Bengal’s attacking structure. The remaining goals came from Jyoti Chauhan and Sulanjana Raul, as East Bengal combined ruthless finishing with structured build-up play to overwhelm their Bangladeshi opponents. East Bengal’s intent was clear from the opening minutes. They pressed high, circulated the ball quickly through midfield, and consistently targeted spaces behind the Nasrin backline.

The breakthrough arrived in the 7th minute when Fazila latched onto a clever through ball from Sarita Yumnam and calmly slotted past the goalkeeper to open the scoring. The early goal set the tone for what would become a one-sided contest.

In the 27th minute, Fazila doubled her tally, finishing off a neat assist from Jyoti Chauhan after sustained pressure around the penalty area. East Bengal’s dominance grew as the half progressed, with Nasrin struggling to cope with the movement and physicality of the Kolkata side’s front line. Just before halftime, Fazila completed her hat-trick, converting from close range after being picked out by Sushmita Lepcha, making it 3–0.

East Bengal were not done yet in the first half. Deep into stoppage time, Jyoti Chauhan got on the scoresheet, tapping in from close range following a precise cross from Sulanjana Raul. The goal capped a near-perfect opening 45 minutes and sent East Bengal into the break with a commanding 4–0 lead.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with East Bengal controlling possession and dictating the tempo. In the 73rd minute, Sulanjana Raul added the fifth goal, finishing calmly after being set up by Resty Nanziri. The strike carried special significance, as it made the 18-year-old the all-time leading goal scorer in East Bengal Women’s history with 44 goals a remarkable milestone at such a young age.

Barely a minute later, Fazila struck again, rifling home her fourth goal of the night after an assist from Shilky Devi. The Ugandan forward’s sharp movement, strength in duels, and clinical finishing proved too much for the Nasrin defence, which by this stage was visibly stretched. Fazila completed her five-goal performance in the 90th minute, sealing the 7–0 rout and taking her personal tally in the tournament to seven goals.

This victory marked East Bengal’s third consecutive win in the group stage. Earlier, they had defeated Transport United Ladies FC of Bhutan 4–0 and Karachi City FC of Pakistan 2–0, showcasing consistency both in attack and defence. With nine points from three matches, East Bengal currently sit at the top of the table, ahead of Nepal’s Armed Police Force FC (APF), who are placed second with seven points.

Both East Bengal and APF have already secured qualification for the final, scheduled for December 20. However, the two sides will meet once more in the final group-stage fixture on December 17 at 5:45 pm, a match that will serve as a preview of the title clash and a crucial test of momentum.

East Bengal’s starting XI against Nasrin Sports Academy featured Panthoi Chanu in goal, with a backline of Sarita Yumnam, Abena Okyere, Ashalata Devi and Sushmita Lepcha. The midfield trio of Shilky Devi, Sathi Munda and Soumya Guguloth provided balance and control, while Resty Nanziri, Sulanjana Raul and Fazila Ikwaput led the attack.

Beyond the scoreline, East Bengal’s campaign has highlighted the growing maturity and depth of their women’s team. The blend of experienced internationals and emerging domestic talents has given them tactical flexibility and resilience. Their ability to dominate games, manage transitions, and convert chances efficiently reflects a side that is not just winning, but doing so with authority.

As the tournament heads into its decisive phase, East Bengal Women look well-placed to challenge for the SAFF Women’s Club Championship title. With Fazila in prolific form, Sulanjana continuing to break records, and the team functioning cohesively across all departments, the Moshal Girls have sent a clear message: they are not just participants in Kathmandu they are contenders, and possibly the team to beat.
