Day two of Tennis Premier League TPL Season 7 delivered another engrossing evening of fast-paced tennis at the Gujarat University Tennis Stadium, with GS Delhi Aces stamping their authority in the first tie before Yash Mumbai Eagles held their nerve to clinch a dramatic contest against SG Pipers Bengaluru.

The intensity that marked the opening day carried seamlessly into Wednesday’s action, with players adapting quickly to the charcoal-coloured courts as margins remained fine and momentum shifts decisive.

The day began with the clash between GS Delhi Aces and Chennai Smashers, and it was the Delhi side who seized control early through a commanding performance from Sofia Costoulas in the women’s singles. The 20-year-old Belgian, impressive on the opening day, once again dictated play from the baseline. Her ability to control rallies with depth and consistency, coupled with a powerful backhand, left little room for Irina Bara to mount a response. Costoulas’ assured display translated into a comprehensive 17–8 win, giving Delhi the perfect starting boost.

Costoulas returned to the court for the mixed doubles alongside Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan, and the pair continued Delhi’s strong momentum. Facing Bara and Rithvik Bollipalli, Costoulas and Jeevan combined aggression with discipline, particularly in net exchanges and return games. Their energy and understanding produced a solid 16–9 victory, tightening GS Delhi Aces’ grip on the tie.

Chennai Smashers, however, showed resilience in the men’s singles through Dalibor Svrcina. Up against Billy Harris, Svrcina produced a composed show in a contest that swung back and forth point by point. The Czech edged ahead with a narrow 13–12 win, briefly reviving Chennai’s hopes. Svrcina then teamed up with Bollipalli to secure the men’s doubles 14–11, adding further respectability to the scoreboard.

Despite Chennai’s late surge, Delhi had already done the bulk of the damage. The men’s doubles pairing of Billy Harris and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan played a crucial role in ensuring the overall result. Their steady accumulation of points helped GS Delhi Aces close out the tie 56–44, underlining their depth across categories and delivering a convincing second-day victory.

The evening’s second encounter saw SG Pipers Bengaluru take on Yash Mumbai Eagles in what turned out to be one of the tightest ties of the season so far.

Yash Mumbai Eagles made a strong start in the women’s singles through Riya Bhatia, who produced a confident and controlled performance against Shrivalli Bhamidipaty. Bhatia stayed composed under pressure, using smart placement and movement to pull away for a 17–8 win and give the Eagles an early edge. However, SG Pipers responded immediately in the mixed doubles. Shrivalli Bhamidipaty paired up with Rohan Bopanna and showcased sharp coordination and calm decision-making at the net.

The Bengaluru duo kept their unbeaten run intact with a 14–11 win over Riya Bhatia and Niki Poonacha, swinging momentum back towards SG Pipers.

The men’s singles saw marquee player Ramkumar Ramanathan step up for SG Pipers Bengaluru against Damir Dzumhur. Displaying control and maturity, Ramkumar neutralised Dzumhur’s experience and shot-making to secure a 15–10 victory, putting SG Pipers firmly back in contention as the tie reached its decisive phase.

Everything ultimately hinged on the men’s doubles, where Ramkumar Ramanathan and Rohan Bopanna faced the Yash Mumbai Eagles duo of Niki Poonacha and Damir Dzumhur. The contest was finely balanced throughout, with neither pair able to establish clear separation. In a tense finish, Poonacha and Dzumhur edged the game 13–12, a slim margin that proved decisive.

That narrow doubles win allowed Yash Mumbai Eagles to clinch the tie 51–49 overall, capping off a thrilling conclusion to day two.

As TPL Season 7 continues in Ahmedabad, the league is already shaping up as a tightly contested affair. Delhi Aces have announced themselves as serious contenders, while Yash Mumbai Eagles’ late-day composure underlined the value of experience in crunch moments. With several more ties to come, the competition promises even more drama in the days ahead.
