The Tennis Premier League, TPL 2025 got off to a competitive start on December 9 at the Gujarat University Tennis Stadium in Ahmedabad, with all eight teams featuring on Day 1.

As expected in the league’s fast-paced 25-point format, fine margins decided most ties, but by the end of the opening day, Chennai Smashers and SG Pipers Bengaluru emerged as the early front-runners. With four crucial ties scheduled on Match Day 2 (December 10), teams will already be mindful of the points table, where early momentum can be decisive in the race for qualifying spots.

Day 1 Results Snapshot

  • SG Pipers Bengaluru beat Gurgaon Grand Slammers 56–44
  • Rajasthan Rangers beat Hyderabad Strikers 52–48
  • GS Delhi Aces beat Yash Mumbai Eagles 52–48
  • Chennai Smashers beat Gujarat Panthers 57–43

After one match each, Chennai Smashers lead with 57 points, closely followed by SG Pipers on 56. Rajasthan Rangers and GS Delhi Aces, both on 52, currently occupy the remaining qualifying positions, while Hyderabad Strikers, Yash Mumbai Eagles, Gurgaon Grand Slammers and Gujarat Panthers will look to bounce back on Match Day 2.

Match 1 Chennai Smashers vs GS Delhi Aces (4:30 PM)

Match Day 2 opens with a high-quality clash between the top two performers after Day 1. Chennai Smashers produced the most emphatic victory of the opening day, powered by Czech youngster Dalibor Svrcina, who dominated Alexandre Müller 17–8 in men’s singles. Svrcina then partnered Rithvik Choudary Bollipalli to clinch the men’s doubles 13–12, sealing a commanding 57–43 win over Gujarat Panthers.

GS Delhi Aces, meanwhile, showed resilience to edge past Yash Mumbai Eagles 52–48. Their campaign was built on consistent performances across categories, particularly in singles, while keeping margins tight in doubles. Against Chennai’s depth and current form, Delhi Aces will need another disciplined outing to avoid slipping behind the leaders.

Match 2 SG Pipers Bengaluru vs Yash Mumbai Eagles (6:00 PM)

SG Pipers Bengaluru head into Match Day 2 with confidence after a solid 56–44 win over Gurgaon Grand Slammers on opening night. Shrivalli Bhamidipaty set the tone early with a dominant 18–7 women’s singles win, before teaming up with Rohan Bopanna to grind out a 14–11 mixed doubles victory. Bopanna then returned alongside Ramkumar Ramanathan to close out the men’s doubles 15–10, underlining SG Pipers’ strength in the doubles formats.

Yash Mumbai Eagles were competitive but fell narrowly to Delhi Aces. While they picked up valuable points through Riya Bhatia and Niki Poonacha in mixed doubles, their singles returns were not enough to tilt the tie. Match Day 2 offers a timely opportunity to correct course against one of the table leaders.

Match 3 Hyderabad Strikers vs Gujarat Panthers (7:30 PM)

Two teams without a win face off in a must-impact encounter. Defending champions Hyderabad Strikers began their season with a 48–52 defeat to Rajasthan Rangers, despite a commanding start from Carole Monnet in women’s singles. Hyderabad struggled to convert that early advantage, particularly in the doubles, an area they will focus on tightening up.

Hosts Gujarat Panthers had a difficult opener against Chennai Smashers, losing 43–57. Although they managed to edge the mixed doubles 13–12, they were outgunned in men’s singles and men’s doubles. With home support behind them, this fixture presents a chance to get their campaign back on track.

Match 4 Gurgaon Grand Slammers vs Rajasthan Rangers (9:00 PM)

The final tie of the day pits two sides coming off contrasting starts. Gurgaon Grand Slammers showed flashes of quality, notably through Dan Evans’ 16–9 win in men’s singles, but were unable to sustain momentum in doubles against SG Pipers, eventually slipping to a 44–56 defeat.

Rajasthan Rangers, on the other hand, demonstrated their credentials with a measured 52–48 win over Hyderabad Strikers. World No. 26 Luciano Darderi was the standout, delivering in both singles and doubles to anchor Rajasthan’s comeback after losing the opening category.

With only one match played per team so far, the table remains fluid, but Match Day 2 could already start creating separation between contenders and chasers. In a format defined by speed, precision and point accumulation, consistency across all four categories will remain the difference-maker.

The action begins at 4:30 PM, live on Sony Sports Network and JioHotstar, with live scores available on the IndiaSportsHub App.
