India’s shooting contingent continued its impressive run at the ISSF World Cup Final 2025 in Doha, with Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar clinching a superb silver medal in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions.

The double Olympian shot 413.3 in the final to finish second, securing a podium place in what was his first-ever appearance at a World Cup Final.

The silver medal was the result of a tightly contested final, with Aishwary finishing just 0.9 points behind gold medallist Jiří Přivratský of Czechia. China’s Liu Yukun, the reigning World and Olympic Champion, took bronze, making it a high-quality podium featuring three of the strongest 3P shooters in the world.

Aishwary’s day began with an excellent showing in the qualification round, where consistency across all three positions kept him firmly among the leaders. His score of 595 ensured safe passage into the final in second place, confirming his readiness for the pressure of the medal round.

The qualification details reflected his balance as a 3P shooter solid kneeling, a flawless prone series, and controlled shooting in standing despite the inherent difficulty of the position. The top eight qualifiers advanced, setting up a final that promised intensity and fine margins.

A New Finals Format, A New Challenge

The men’s 50m rifle 3 positions final was conducted under a revamped format, with 40 shots instead of the earlier 45, comprising 10 kneeling, 10 prone, and 20 standing shots. This format, expected to be used at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, places increased emphasis on standing, where matches are often decided.

As the final progressed, it became clear that the contest for the top two spots would be decided by the smallest of margins. Jiří Přivratský held a slender advantage through key stages, while Aishwary matched him shot for shot, refusing to let the gap widen. Even with the pressure mounting, the Indian shooter stayed calm, finishing with a total of 413.3.

In the end, the difference between gold and silver was just 0.9 points, underlining how closely matched the field was. Liu Yukun’s presence on the podium further highlighted the quality of the final, with all three medallists delivering world-class performances.

A Milestone Performance

This silver medal marked a major milestone for Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar. Competing in his first World Cup Final, he showed that he belongs among the global elite in one of the sport’s most demanding disciplines. Handling the pressure of a season-ending final against Olympic and world champions, he displayed resilience, technical sharpness, and strong mental control.

The medal ceremony reflected the significance of the occasion, with ISSF President Luciano Rossi and Secretary-General of Qatar Shooting Sheikh Jassim Al Sulaiti presenting the medals to the winners.
