The fourth UTT National Ranking Table Tennis Championships opened with energy and intent at the Tau Devi Lal Multipurpose Indoor Stadium, where the youngest competitors set an early benchmark for intensity.
The U-11 qualifiers produced a day filled with long rallies, five-game thrillers, and standout recoveries and for Haryana, it proved to be a highly encouraging start. A total of 11 paddlers from the state seven boys and four girls advanced to Stage 2, underlining the depth in Haryana’s grassroots programme.
From the first round onward, Haryana’s juniors showcased the ability to stay composed under scoreboard pressure, drawing strong support from home fans who turned up early to watch the rising talent. The highlight was an all-Haryana boys’ clash, where Keshav Raghunath Vasudev edged Advik Jain (TTFI-1) in a gripping five-game duel: 11-5, 6-11, 8-11, 11-8, 11-8. The match swung repeatedly before Keshav steadied himself with confident forehand counters in the decider a performance reflecting the improving match temperament among the state’s youth.
On the girls’ side, Mahi Kumari delivered one of the most composed wins of the day, overcoming West Bengal’s Debopriya Karmakar 11-9, 11-7, 9-11, 13-11, 11-8. Mahi’s controlled aggression, particularly in the fourth game’s deuce exchanges, earned appreciation from the crowd. Soon after, Phalgun Gupta added a spirited comeback of her own, recovering from 1-2 down to defeat West Bengal’s Aaditri 10-12, 11-6, 9-11, 11-5, 11-8.
Haryana almost added another comeback win through Mihika Gupta, who fought back from two games down against Gujarat’s Yaana Singh. Despite forcing a decider, Mihika narrowly fell 6-11, 4-11, 11-13, 11-6, 10-12 in one of the closest matches of the opening day.
Thrillers From Across the Draw
Beyond the home contingent, the U-11 qualifiers offered several tense, momentum-shifting contests.
Tamil Nadu’s S. Nithin Kanna showed excellent recovery skills in defeating West Bengal’s Trishanjit Ghosh 7-11, 11-3, 11-8, 9-11, 11-6. Telangana’s Vihaan Mudumbai produced perhaps the day’s most dramatic turnaround after losing two deuce games 13-15, 13-15, he rallied to win the next three games with patience and sharp placement, sealing a 11-8, 12-10, 11-3 finish.

Delhi’s Ayaan Malhan stood out for his poise under pressure, edging Punjab’s Aditya Singhania 5-11, 11-8, 11-13, 12-10, 11-5 in a fast-paced battle where both players attempted to seize initiative early in rallies. Chandigarh’s Divit Bansal also advanced after a gritty five-game victory over West Bengal’s Rigved Saha.

In the girls’ section, West Bengal continued to display its strong youth pipeline, with victories for Anusriti Sarkar, Rupkatha Das, Oishikta Das, and Srinika Chakladar. Madhya Pradesh’s Khushi Bagel prevailed in a back-and-forth encounter against Delhi’s Privya Barua, while Gujarat’s Yaana Singh held off Haryana’s Mihika in a match that showcased impressive shot tolerance from both sides.
With seven boys and four girls advancing, Haryana concluded the opening day on a promising note. The performances reflected a blend of technical improvement and newfound composure, key traits for players transitioning from local circuits to national platforms. For many, these early wins served as important confidence-building moments particularly while playing in front of home supporters who cheered every long rally.
As the tournament progresses into Stage 2, Haryana’s contingent will look to build on this momentum and convert early promise into deeper runs. With several young paddlers already demonstrating resilience and tactical maturity, the hosts can look ahead to the week with optimism.
