India’s women wrestlers delivered a stellar performance at the U23 Asian Wrestling Championships 2025 in Vung Tau, Vietnam, capturing five gold medals and one silver in a commanding display of talent and dominance.
Priyanshi Prajapat (50kg) – Calm Under Pressure
In the 50kg weight class, Priyanshi Prajapat emerged victorious with a gritty 4-2 win over Mongolia’s Munkhgerel Munkhbat in the final. Displaying tactical awareness and composure, Priyanshi controlled the bout and held off a late challenge to secure India’s first women’s gold of the competition.
Reena (55kg) – Aggression Meets Precision
Reena followed up with a commanding performance in the 55kg final, defeating Aruuke Kadyrbek Kyzy of Kyrgyzstan by a wide 13-4 margin. Reena mixed offensive pressure with sharp counters to overpower her opponent and earn a well-deserved gold medal. She had earlier eased through the preliminary rounds, showcasing both technique and tenacity.
Tanvi Magdum (59kg) – Promising Silver
In the 59kg category, Tanvi Magdum had a strong showing, finishing with three wins and one loss to claim the silver medal. Although she missed out on gold, her consistency through the competition reflects her rising stature in Indian wrestling circles.
Shrishti (68kg) – Technical Masterclass
One of the standout performances came from Shrishti in the 68kg final, where she dismantled her Chinese opponent 10-0 via technical superiority. Her aggressive style and flawless execution left no room for a contest. The gold was a fitting reward for one of India’s most consistent age-group performers.
Priya Malik (76kg) – Total Domination
Rounding off India’s golden charge was Priya Malik, who steamrolled through the 76kg category with three wins, all by technical superiority. Not a single point was scored against her. Priya’s physical strength and mat control made her virtually untouchable, reaffirming her status as one of India’s brightest wrestling prospects.

With five golds and one silver, India’s women wrestlers not only topped the charts in terms of medal haul but also made a strong statement about the country’s depth in women’s freestyle wrestling. As the Paris 2024 Olympians transition out, this new batch of talent is already beginning to take the spotlight.
