Hyderabad Heroes Record Biggest Win of the Tournament; Chennai Bulls Remain Unbeaten at the Top in GMR RPL

Mumbai, 17 June 2025: It was a night of dominant rugby action at the Shahaji Raje Bhosale Sports Complex (Andheri Sports Complex) as the Chennai Bulls and Hyderabad Heroes registered emphatic victories in Season 1 of the GMR RPL. While the Bulls continued their unbeaten run with a convincing 21-7 win over the Delhi Redz, the Heroes dismantled the Bengaluru Bravehearts 43-7—the largest winning margin recorded in the competition so far.

Chennai Bulls 21-7 Delhi Redz

The evening kicked off with the in-form Chennai Bulls asserting their authority once again. From the outset, they controlled possession and kept Delhi pinned deep in their half. The Redz were largely passive in the early exchanges, and the Bulls took full advantage.

Vaafauese Maliko opened the scoring with a pair of tries, both successfully converted by Joaquin Pellandini. Before halftime, Terry Kennedy broke free with a stunning solo run, covering almost the full length of the field to score the Bulls’ third try. Pellandini slotted in his third conversion, giving the Bulls a commanding 21-0 lead at the break.

In the second half, Chennai focused on game management, staying compact defensively. The Redz struggled to break through until the final play of the fourth quarter, when Matias Osadczuk finally got them on the board with a try and converted his own kick. Despite the late consolation, the Bulls walked away with a dominant 21-7 victory, strengthening their position at the top of the standings.

Hyderabad Heroes 43-7 Bengaluru Bravehearts

The second match of the night saw an explosive performance from the Hyderabad Heroes, who produced the most dominant display of the tournament. Their overseas stars led the charge as they ran riot against a struggling Bravehearts side.

The tone was set early, with Joji Nasova and Kevin Wekesa both crossing the line in the opening quarter. Terio Tamani converted one of the two tries to give the Heroes early control. The second quarter saw Hyderabad raise their intensity even further. Tries from Sumit Roy, Kevin Wekesa (his second of the game), and Javed Hussein were followed by two more successful conversions from Tamani, helping the Heroes storm into a 31-0 lead at halftime.

The Bravehearts managed to show some fight in the third quarter. Liam Poulton scored their first try of the match and Akuila Rokolisoa added the conversion, bringing the score to 31-7.

But any hopes of a comeback were quickly quashed in the final period. Hyderabad closed the game with two more tries, one each from Joji Nasova and Wolfram Hacker, with Sukumar Hembrom converting the final kick to seal a thumping 43-7 win.

With this result, the Hyderabad Heroes move up to second place in the points table, while the Bravehearts will look to regroup after a difficult outing.
